Re: Dick Vitale makes me vomit
Half the time there's a great play, and Shulman can't even do the pxp because Vitale's still rambling about whatever.

Re: Dick Vitale makes me vomit

I like Dick Vitale. He has a [censored] of energy, and whenever he walks into an arena, that game becomes the biggest college basketball game of the night. [/ QUOTE ] The over-the-top energy level is exactly what's so annoying about him. He's like a retarded kid who finds a shiny new penny. Someone please tell him there's a microphone in front of him. No need to yell. Highly annoying, but I don't really understand the intense hatred for the man. |

Re: Dick Vitale makes me vomit
"Vitale can have his own 2 hour show on random musings if that is what he wants to do. He doesn't announce games. He hurts games. "
Have you ever heard him on a radio interview? It's the same level of yelling and volume that you get on TV, and it seems even more out of context and annoying. "Loud" is not a style. Vitale is that kid posting in all caps and nobody takes him seriously in the least. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Vitale (and Billy Packer) make it impossible to watch basketball. He's all "style" and no content, and beyond yelling, he brings nothing to the table in terms of analysis. If you enjoy him you are part of the problem. [/ QUOTE ] I'm curious...what IS the problem? [/ QUOTE ] Broadcasts that are driven more by in booth personality and on the field/court actions. I want a good color guy and a smart analyst, if he's funny that's thread. The way a Dick Vitale game is produced, it makes every broadcast functionally about Dick Vitale. [/ QUOTE ] Some people like that. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, mind you. |

Re: Dick Vitale makes me vomit

They're ranked #10 and #11 in the polls and also are ranked #1, #2, and #10 in the different Sagarin ratings, so don't claim voter bias. So to say this year's Duke team sucks, you are saying that almost every team in college basketball sucks. [/ QUOTE ] Are you kidding with this stuff? Voter bias is there in the polls, especially the early ones. Not just for Duke, but for all of the big national programs. Denying that is denying the obvious. And the computer rankings mean NOTHING right now. There isn't enough data to make a meaningful picture until at least January. In the RPI, Texas Arlington is 2-2 with wins over North Texas and Texas Pan American by a combined nine points. But it's ranked No. 11. Totally meaningless. As for Sagarin, the only reason his rankings aren't totally out of whack at this point in the season is that they are biased by preseason weighting for the first few weeks of the season. Voter bias! He doesn't take away the preseason weighting until the teams become 'connected' by playing more games. |

While I understand the "sports as entertainment beyond that which is on the field/court" thing, I still hate it, even if that's the way of the future. |

Re: Dick Vitale makes me vomit

I like how people talk about this being a huge down year for Duke, but they'll still likely make at least the sweet 16 and are miles better than UNC was a few years ago. But people like to forget those types of things. [/ QUOTE ] Those WERE down years for UNC, and everyone knows it. The standards are very high. "Down year" doesn't mean "disaster." And UNC's team from several years ago doesn't really have anything to do with anything at this point. UNC was way better than dook in the early 1980's! This is projected to be a down year for dook. They don't look so good right now. I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't make the Sweet Sixteen; they could easily end up with a 4 seed and lose to a 5 in the round of 32. That said, they don't "suck." They'll be fine. McRoberts is a beast. |
