Does playing poker make people bitter or does poker just attract bitter people?

I don't hate him for winning but for thinking he made all the correct moves. I know that he didn't plan on not winning because he played with money that he shouldn't have. But what if he lost? He was a bit more likely than the average winning poker to (I think Case said it the best) "blow all his live savings gambling and commit suicide".
What are college kids gonna do when they hear his story? They are going to follow suit and history has told us that it will end badly when someone loses all his money. [ QUOTE ] What I gather from this thread (and others about him)is the only thing that people on here would accept him saying is "I suck, I'm a total donkey, I can't believe how lucky I got" How dare he express belief in his skills. [/ QUOTE ] I, and I think most others, would be happy if he told the story about how he grinded out 50K playing 200NL at the casino and let it ride at the WSOP (like Mike from rounders at the end). Then the only person that would hate him is this guy: [ QUOTE ] I hate this tool for the following reasons... - He won two bracelets. - He cashed in four events. - He's only 21 years old. - He won $1.4M. [/ QUOTE ] Could he honestly have said anything worse than "I borrowed money so that I could play in these tournaments because I knew I would do well"? On a lighter note: [ QUOTE ] "Often, I wont look at my cards until the turn. What I do is study all of my opponents. If I know my cards, then it will be too big of a distraction. I am confident that my reads are so strong, that my cards really dont matter. Remember, you play the man, not the cards" [/ QUOTE ] I think we're making the next 2+2 braclet winner say that. [ QUOTE ]
Moneymaker is actually much skinnier now than when he won the main event...I'd guess he's lost 30 pounds since then at least. I would think I'm stating the obvious, but you don't make 4 final tables in a month and beat over 2500 people by being just lucky. [/ QUOTE ] That's exactly the point. There is so much luck in poker that a complete novice could win 2 bracelets and make 4 final tables, making all the wrong moves and possessing no fundamental understanding of the game. |
