I moved out when I was 20 and had three solid years of partying and living on my own until my dad got sick. I had to move home to help take care of him, and I've been there for two years now. It's okay. It doesn't impede my social life really, except not being able to entertain like I used to at my place. I'm anxious to move out again, not paying rent is cool, but I feel like I've been stuck in a rut for the last little while. My dad is just about on the transplant list, so hopefully it won't be too much longer.

To answer the question asked in the OP, your mom is silly. Moving out on your own and not playing the role of "child" is huge.
