I have to second that Bills - Oilers game, I remember watching that one in complete disbelief.

Alternatively, any AI in an NBA video game from the 90's when you're leading in the 4th.

My team Wolves have only had one appearance in the Premiership, and that was a painful experience for the most part. The season highlight for me though was going 3-0 down at half time to Leicester, then a superb second half comeback to take it 4-3.

The thing was when it went 3-1, I just knew we were going to win, and the Wolves players did too, and it seemed the Leicester players did as well, you could see the fear set in them. The same thing happened with Milan against Liverpool 2005, and Bayern against Man Utd 1999.

Agreed. Down to your last strike 5 runs down, after being down 12 in the 7th, and pulling it out! This version rules Click on "Watch this Movie" on upper left of page.

People who disagree with this are probably vampires or something. Down by 12 in the 7th inning!!! Against a team that won 116 games that year!!!! A bases loaded, full count, game tying triple!!!!!!

There is nothing amazing about a 4-game win streak. Those fall under the category of "slightly improbable comebacks".

[/ QUOTE ]
If it's never been done before in baseball playoff history is it still "slightly improbable"?

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe its never been done in any playoff 7-game series, correct? Now who is out of line, eh?

[/ QUOTE ]
happened twice in hockey. seems like you are out of line.

[/ QUOTE ]

I asked if I was correct, look back. Regardless, "slightly improbable"? Please!!

This is a little out dated as its before the Sox comeback, but I'm sure the numbers are fairly square today:

In the 797 best-of-7 MLB, NBA, and NHL series that have been played from 1905 through 1999, 211 times has a team taken a 3-0 series lead. In theory, if the competing teams have equal chances of winning each game, then the probability of the trailing team winning four straight games is 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/16 or 6.25%. But in practice, only twice in these 211 series (0.95% -- well under 6.25%) has the trailing team rebounded to win four straight.

Anyone who said, "slightly improbable", please keep your day jobs as you've been paying my rent by chasing those long odds for the last four years.

Dec 7, 1980 I walked up and bought tickets to see a very bad 49ers team led by Steve Deberg. He was pulled after a miserable first half opening the door for Joe Montana. The halftime score was 35-7, the final 38-35 in OT. It was the start of a good run for Montana and the 49ers.

New Orleans 14 21 0 0 0 35
San Francisco 0 7 14 14 3 38

NO - Harris 33 pass from Manning (Ricardo kick)
NO - Childs 21 pass from Manning (Ricardo kick)
NO - Holmes 1 run (Ricardo kick)
SF - Solomon 57 punt return (Wersching kick)
NO - Holmes 1 run (Ricardo kick)
NO - Harris 41 pass from Manning (Ricardo kick)
SF - Montana 1 run (Wersching kick)
SF - Clark 71 pass from Montana (Wersching kick)
SF - Solomon 14 pass from Montana (Wersching kick)
SF - Elliott 7 run (Wersching kick)
SF - FG Wersching 36

So there you have it. The Sox had a 6.25% chance of coming back. A good comeback, for sure, but others have faced longer odds and won.

Irrelevant for reasons already stated.

Joe Tall,
Do you disagree with my earlier post?
What would you guess are the odds of the Indians coming back from 12 down in the 7th?
The Bills down 32 with a backup QB?
Middlesbrough having two 4 goal comebacks?

Back in the 1980's, there was a game between two high-scoring teams (most likely WAC?) that I watched on ESPN. If anyone can remember which teams and the year, I'd appreciate it!

Team A scored three TDs in the final five minutes to take the lead. Team B scored in the last minute to retake the lead. Team A won the game on a hail-mary.

Amazing game....can't remember who played in it. I think I'm the only person who every watche those midnight football games on ESPN and the midnight PAC-10 basketball games on ESPN back in the 80's.
