What successful, even heroic figure like him makes this many enemies along the way? [/ QUOTE ] This cannot possibly be a serious question. Which one doesn't? |

I didn't know steriod use was so widespread and accepted in cycling. I'm guessing most Americans don't know that either.

I just really dislike the argument that says "Lance must have been using drugs because he won and everybody knows you can't win without drugs". There still hasn't been proof, and treating this argument like it's the Lance supporters who need to prove he wasn't is silly. [/ QUOTE ] there isn't definitive proof...but... so many people have said he did, there is circumstantial evidence that he did it...all of the top guys are guilty of it...that if I had a gun to my head and had to make a call one way or the other, I would have to say he doped. it's pretty similar to the Bonds situation |

Why wasn't Gretzky in the original poll? He dominated hockey to an extent even greater than Jordan dominated basketball.

Before voting, I'll be shocked if Lance gets more than 10% of this, and if you had done it pre-ESPYs or a month from now after the TDF has died down, it'd be less than 5%.

I'm surprised it is that high. Seriously, the best guy ever in CYCLING, or the best guy ever in the second-most popular sport in the US? |

There's no athlete in the world that's been tested for drugs more than Lance Armstrong, and there's never been a valid positive test. There's been one questionable positive, done by a lab that is owned by the newspaper in France that reported the findings. Certainly not biased reporting there at all.
How did Armstrong outperform his opponents like that? After being afflicted with cancer, he was able to build himself in to the perfect cyclist. Most professional cyclists work out their entire body for years and years before settling on cycling. Armstrong was the same way. After cancer, he was able to focus all his efforts on cycling muscles & endurance, and not waste anything on his upper body, etc. If you consider that he had by far the best team in the tour around him all 7 years he won, and the fact he was able to focus his training from scratch on professional cycling & the Tour de France, it would almost be criminal had he lost. Do I think Armstrong did drugs? No Am I naive? Also no. Nobody is smart enough to beat the sheer number of tests he took if they're cheating. In fact, I think most people look at what he did and say "That's impossible. There's no way he can do that without cheating!" and decide that he must have cheated, based solely on that. |

EDIT: Yep. The average tv audience for the World Series was 17.1 million. The audience for the NBA finals was 11.9 million. Source: Yahoo |
