Re: Why is Doyle Brunson considered to be so good?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] http://youtube.com/watch?v=SyZdGTVAalE [/ QUOTE ] Brilliant laydown. Although it probably had more to do with his knowledge of Chip than anything else. I wonder if he put Chip on AA/KK or a set ... ? [/ QUOTE ] i wonder if it had to do with chip sending him a signal like from the old days when they used to cheat [/ QUOTE ] I seriously doubt it. |

Why is Jimi Hendrix considered to be so good? There are hundreds of guitarist who can play better than him and not say "Blah Blah Woof Woof". I bet Ralph Machio would blow him away if they met at the Crossroads. [/ QUOTE ] GOLD. |

Re: Why is Doyle Brunson considered to be so good?
ban OP to start, because i just dont believe anyone is honestly that dumb, but it does drive me absolutely crazy when people that play 5-10nl honestly believe their opinions mean anything to a guy that plays 300-600nl or 4k-8k mixed games. no matter what we may think of the high stakes pros decisions on tv we do not know any of the backround or psychology that is going into why they made a specific play. if we understood that level wouldnt we be playing that level. irritating

Re: Why is Doyle Brunson considered to be so good?
well, Doyle explains it himself in SS.
[ QUOTE ] The most important thing to remember is that poker is a game of people. You've got to know what makes your opponent tick, and more importantly, you've got to know what makes him tick at the very moment you're involved in a pot with him [/ QUOTE ] Doyle's playing people, while we're playing cards. As an added bonus, here's a great Phil Ivey quote [ QUOTE ] Once you pass a certain level, particularly in NL play, the fundamental strategies mean less and less, and winning poker comes down to two simple questions: "Does he have the hand he's representing" and "Does he think I have a hand than can beat his hand, or the hand he's representing." [/ QUOTE ] The point is, at the 300/600nl 4k/8k mixed level, everyone has all the strategies we study down so cold that if you played that way, you'd be eaten alive. Once you get past $100/$200NL, poker becomes ~ 90% Psychological 10% Strategy. |
