[/ QUOTE ] that might have been sarcastic given the result, and i'm sorry to inject some strategy into an LC thread, but i'm still very uncomfortable w/ my NL game, and i'm actually curious about the play: yeah, checking twice there is probably bad, and something i pretty much never do (i generally hate slowplaying). it felt right here, though. reason is, if he has OCs, there's no value in a bet when i can let him bluff or spike a pair. the only value i'm missing is from picked up FDs, but he'll bet those often anyways (and w/ the board pairing, i'm not concerned about free cards). and if he's trying to trap me w/ a big hand, well, you see what happens. please tell me if my thought process is bad though. in limit i bet the turn 100% of the time, because people never fold A high anyways. not sure if i should be doing it in NL too |

Re: KK - He raised, I reraised and he pushed - Surely he has AA
It wasn't sarcastic. You were slowplaying in order to induce a bluff from air, but there are two other situations you should be more concerned about. One, if the opponent has a hand like 66 or 88 they have draws to beat you. And two, the opponent will sometimes have a strong hand, strong enough for them to be willing to back it up with a good chunk of thier chips. By inducing a bluff you are focused on tiny wins. If you focus on the bigger wins, you'll make more over the long haul.

Re: KK - He raised, I reraised and he pushed - Surely he has AA
I don't like nitting up my NC thread, but we'd really like 88 and 66 to "hit" against our boat. They're drawing dead right now. However, this point is the important one:

Yeah youre right, I ignored the fact that we improved. Regradless, even if you are not giving free cards to beat you slowplaying is normally less +EV than valubetting because you win more from worse hands calling big bets than air hands making small bluffs.

im not cutout for NL I guess im going back to lhe soon: [/ QUOTE ] either raise more or coldcall (or limp) less preflop, that gap b/w VPIP and PFR is too big. Be a lot more aggressive on the flop (bet/raise more and call less) and a bit more aggro on turn and river. Go to showdown less. |
