"So, care to try again? "

All you've done in your post is vaguely say "you're wrong, try again". No, I don't care to "try again" but if you have something worth while to say I will respond to it...

[ QUOTE ]
Or are you debating that when the GDP/c goes down there's more poverty? Maybe not 100% of the time, but 99% or 98% of the time?

[/ QUOTE ]

ok, we're getting closer

any evidence to back that up?

"Im debating the statement that "a loss in GDP/c" implies that "everyone gets poorer"."

So, you don't think that when the average per capita income of the nation is say... 1/10th of what it was originally, people are poorer? You think they're richer?

"Again, please define what you mean by "everyone gets poorer""

When people have less income, they have less money. When people have less money, they are poorer.

Any evidance to back up the fact that as people's incomes go down they have less money? I wasn't aware this was a hotly debated topic.

OK, lets stick on the defintion thing

You missed what I wanted you to define, but this one is my fault.

"everyone gets poorer"

does it mean "on average, people have less money"

or "everyone has less money"

the nitpicking necessary since you seem to have a difficult time understanding the difference betweent the two

ok, so, lets get back to

[ QUOTE ]
"You then made the erroneous assumption that increasing GDP/c necessarily decreases poverty"

How silly of me to think that when everyone gets poorer there's more poverty.

[/ QUOTE ]

A) you have now admitted that this is false (see your 99/98% of the time post)

B) (more importantly) you are ignoring the times that the GDP loss mainly effects the wealthy. If a tax were implemented on the top 10% of the population, and used to increase welfare, you are going to help the poor yet decrease GDP/c (assuming the increased tax would hinder the economy).

Or you get some perverse joy in it.

"

No, maybe if you interpret it in some broad, over reaching manner, like a fundamentalist, you could say that I have admitted this is 'false' but of course I still stand by the statement "when everyone get's poorer there's more poverty" and I don't see how you could possibly disagree with that statement.

I don't think this is going to help the poor. YOu are confusing "hurt the rich" and help the poor. Since the only people that actually DO help the poor ARE the rich (through creating wealth and giving them jobs) hurting the rich hurts the poor. Also, welfare doesn't help the poor at it... it effectively forbids them from getting a job and helping themself.

Actually, Im confusing "help the poor" with "giving them money for food"

Whether or not I believe welfare is good, it certainly helps the poor.

I think we can stop here.

Thank you come again.

As a former welfare child, I've seen lots of people on welfare. Often, they "illegally" work on the side, getting paid under the table so they can have a little more. What a great world we live in, where if you are a little needy, the government has no problem giving you some money... so long as you are willing to go through their song and dance, but if you even START to try to drag yourself out of the welfare trap, they immediately cut off all the money you are getting...
