Re: Futurama: \"Bender\'s Big Score\" + other movies/\"new\" episodes
I think all the references were well called for considering a new episode hasn't been made for years, and I think they only made the episode to that effect considering that they expected the hardcore fans to want something of that sort. I liked the episode, but I agree, if it doesn't go back to what it was it likely won't be part of that greatness.

CMI, to gain a reference point, what did you think of the return of Family Guy?

Re: Futurama: \"Bender\'s Big Score\" + other movies/\"new\" episodes
**** probably some spoilers below, not really sure what the topic rules are in this thread, since we are already kinda posting plot points ****
also, just as sort of an overall thought on this dialogue, it appears we are sort of putting callback points in the same category as self reference type jokes, but obv they are different. Obviously, the first few minutes has a LOT of self reference wrt to being cancelled, which I thought was funny, but I can see it if its not your thing (esp. since that specific type of humour hasnt really been in the show before). But, Fly, Im a little confused as to what your complaints are, as to, say, the mobsters or robot santa. Futurama is full of characters that appear in like 4-10 eps, either in big or small roles, I just dont see why bringing them back is a problem. |

I liked it. Don't think it was great as some of the better episodes, but when you consider South Park and Simpsons declining quality, it really makes you appreciate this

It's that they are ALL back. Not some of them, every single one, and the joke is pretty much "Look, it's those guys you may remember"! |

Well since they've referenced every single episode, perhaps the next three movies will just be full of new jokes

That is my hope and that is encouraging how they sort of tone it down with the end primarily concerning itself with a cameo-free subplot.

Re: Futurama: \"Bender\'s Big Score\" + other movies/\"new\" episodes
That is exactly how family guy started back up again, and none of the new episodes are even worth watching. I give the futurama writers more slack though. I am now on the fence as to whether to buy it.
Edit: I prefer shows of the genre: world's blankiest blank. |

Re: Futurama: \"Bender\'s Big Score\" + other movies/\"new\" episodes
One thing that I did find disappointing that's already been mentioned here is that it seemingly completely left out the final episode, the Fry/Leela relationship is as stuck as ever at the start of the movie, and Leela goes on the date without a second thought to Fry.
I know the ending seems to kind of twist this around, I still found it sort of irritating |
