I think this whole discussion to ban is silly, and ignoring him isn't that hard to do. /disclaimer. But...

I think the crux isn't that he has the countdown, it's that he's doing it to be an attention whore again. It's the attention whoring that tilts people, not the specific silly gimmick du jour. But it's usually fairly passive attention whoring, as weird is that sounds.
