Re: So what\'s the deal with \"Atlas Shrugged\"?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Also skip that 80 page John Galt speech. I've read the book like 5 times and never read more than 1/3rd of that speech. I don't know anyone who read the entire speech. [/ QUOTE ] why would you read a book 5 times that you couldn't get through a part it once? [/ QUOTE ]Have you ever read it? The rest of it is pretty good but that speech is terrible. Its like 80 pages of the same thing being said 10 times in a row. [/ QUOTE ] Pretty much. I enjoyed Atlas Shrugged, although I read it for class in high school so I had extra motivation to actually get through it. Even then I still skipped about half the speech. |

Re: So what\'s the deal with \"Atlas Shrugged\"?
It's my fav book I've read in a long time.
But then I identify and agree with alot of the concepts in the book. It reads pretty fast for 1000+ pages. Unlike that piece of crap Iliad that feels like you fought the Trojan war just to get through it. b |

(Stick to your beliefs without bowing down to external forces, personal responsibility, etc.) [/ QUOTE ] Curious about the personal responsibility part of this statement. Imo, it's all about personal responsibility. b |

[ QUOTE ]
After reading it , it appears that the book is pretty well aligned with many of my beliefs. [/ QUOTE ] Also, this might be more true of people who've been self employed. b |

[ QUOTE ] I also still contend that the writing of Atlas Shrugged is awful and needed severe editing, no matter what you may believe about its philosophy. [/ QUOTE ] I disagree. [/ QUOTE ] It could've used an editor. b |

Re: So what\'s the deal with \"Atlas Shrugged\"?
I read FH & AS. FH attracted me to Rand, the second half of AS I had to force myself into finishing. Overall, I hold both books & Rand in high esteem. I don't think AS is either a great book, or completely worthless. Just b/c I don't see myself agreeing with Rand, it didn't mean that the book wasn't worth reading.
That said, I'm recommend you read the FH, then take your spare time & go see a movie or hangout w/ ppls. |

You want to recite it, you'll need those rosy fingered dawns and so forth to keep you on track. Makes yawns reading it though. |
