It's really mostly "leg", but they have a lot of leg ! My best guess was 5 inch leg, 2 inch body, 5 inch leg. So ya, it's still a foot of nasty staring you down ! I don't think my heart could handle that being on my lap. I had shot my shoe at it, but when I missed and it fell on the ground, that's when I hid in my sleeping bag. These bedouin tents are huge ! Everyone else other then one guy was asleep. I never told them what was scrambling around in there. The absolute irony was 2 hours before, some guy came to show us all these animals of the desert. And one of them was a Camel Spider in a jar. Then 2 hours later, one of those bitches is in my tent. greeaaaat.

Is that the super painful-biting, really poisonous kind?

How widespread are those?

Why did it come over and bite you? Most things leave you alone if you're way bigger than them and minding your own business.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think it's the super painful kind, they look pretty scary though. It definitely hurt initially, similar to a bee sting really.

I have no idea why it bit me though, it certainly wasn't provoked. I went to bed around 7 am, and was woken up maybe three hours later when I felt a sharp pain on my foot, and found him clasped onto my foot. Needless to say, it wasn't on me for very long.

Really confused me though, I just moved into a new place and my house is very clean.

Yeah I believe centipedes can be redic aggressive for no reason. If I were you I'd have my house sprayed in the near future (assuming there's sprays that kill these massive bastards).

[censored] this is some scary [censored].

best advice: move to the uk with no poisonous creatures or natural disasters. We do have (malaria free) mosquitos.

i recall reading that, whilst almost all spiders seek to run away and bite only if they can't escape, the funnelweb, or some other aussie spider, is programmed to move towards vibrations (such as people walking) and try to bite.

The 1st one is a standard garden spider. They get big but are harmless to a healthy person. I'm not sure about the 2nd one.

There's only 2 spiders in GA that you need to worry about. They are the Black Widow and Brown Recluse. Both of them can cause serious damage.

I've already posted a pic of a Black Widow.

Here's a Brown Recluse. If you want to see what kind of damage it can do, google(image) it. Some of the pics are nasty. I hope you don't have a weak stomach.

I prolly shouldnt have googled that

[/ QUOTE ]

I googled it last night too. Did you see the guy who's hand was eaten away?

[/ QUOTE ]

i was bit by one of these... i got treated so it wasnt severe though i had two red circles of about 4 inches each on my leg with a dime sized purple bullsye in each. it hurt like hell to put any weight on it and at one point the swelling reached my foot. cant find my pictures of it though

It's a good thing we had this bit of wisdom(quoted below) posted earlier in the thread. People might get the wrong assumption about the Brown Recluse.

[ QUOTE ]
oh enough with the brown recluse. google that spider and learn about it. alot of myths surrounding it.
