Huge choke by woods.

Huh? After the cup is secure, he tried to blow it over the corner of the lake....mistake!

That roar on 17 after Weir made was pretty cool.

That was one of the most chilling sports moments I can remember. Even without the backstory - Weir blows a huge back nine lead, needs to hole that putt to avoid going dormie - the amphitheater setup between 16 and 17 (the 16th green is maybe 100 yards from the 17th green) plus the home favorite made that a truly amazing golf moment. That despite the fact that the Internationals were toast, and in fact officially lost while Weir and Woods played the 18th hole. NBC played it right, he made the putt, they panned out, no commentary, commercial. In all sports, shots of fans going batshit insane in the background are severely underrated.

Prior to this I never liked Weir. I was pissed that he stole the 2003 Masters from Everyman, Len Mattiace. Since then I have derisively referred to him as the "gay midget Canadian robot" and said that his wife looks like that smooth criminal Michael Jackson. But after today I'll be rooting for him.

Those fans were amazing. Even after the outcome was decided they were still going crazy when something good happened for their team. I hope they go back to Canada in the fairly near future, but each team only gets a home course every four years so it may be awhile.

I lol at Johnny Miller saying Tiger isn't going to hit the fairway on 18, and then backtracking a bit by saying..well he can hit it, but he won't.."

Anyway, I like Tiger but was glad for Weir. Weir has let lots of opportunities slip away since the Masters. As a Canadian, I follow him closely, but he has had some disappointing last rounds in key tournaments last couple of years, and is also prone to big blow-ups at the end of rounds (ie. lots of times going 2 or 3 over on last 2 holes during his round).

Hopefully, this will help his confidence. In tough situations he should be able to draw upon this.

Anyway, I enjoyed the week. I know most fans wnat the "comepetive" us versus them stuff that the Ryder Cup has, but I just wanted to see good player play golf.

Key Internaitionl players underperformed (Choi, Goosen, Scott etc), but that happens.

Do you have a massive hard-on for Weir or something? I think you know what would of happened on 18 if the U.S needed that point.

Weir was way, way ahead of Mattiace in the rankings at the time. "Household name"? Maybe not, but he was highly regarded for his talent, whereas to that point Mattiace was best known for blowing his shot over the island green at the Players, which knocked him out of contention in spectacular fashion.

I have a feeling you're not able to rationally discuss Mike Weir, but I made that post anyway. Also, as a tribute to him pulling out that match I changed my Golden Tee player name to "Mike Weird".
