i straddle the athiest/agnostic viewpoint and found the god/religion stuff from Yang intolerable at first.

Then, I watched his interview with Chad at the end. It's impossible not to like the guy. He was genuine and humble. He'll be a great ambassador for the game of poker. Jerry Yang is awesome and I'm glad he won. From a Thai refugee camp fleeing communists in Laos to $8.2M from playing poker in Vegas...what a story.

Agreed. The reaction on 2+2 is typical. Every ME Champion has been bashed, from Moneymaker through today. Even Greg was vilified.

I throughly enjoyed the telecast. I thought, save for a few mistakes, that Yang played dominating, ultra-aggressive poker and totally deserved the Championship. Let the haters hate, they've got nothing better to do.

Well, at least you stopped short of saying "You're going to BURN in HELL! ... bless you".

But seriously, I don't think anyone rally hates Yang, it's just that what he was doing in the first hour or so was absolutely nauseating to many people (Christian or not). Thankfully, he toned it down as the night wore on (praying in his native tongue certainly helped too).

That was more than enough to make me want anyone else to win. And in a kind of sports fan context, that meant I "hated" Yang in the same sense that I might have "hated" the Dallas Cowboys back in the day.
