The Mission - Ennio Morricone
The Life Aquatic - Seu Jorge's Portugese version Apocalypse Now (not entirely OST) Dazed and Confused (not OST) Platoon - the score fits the film perfectly edit - didn't see kerr's post before I added this. Good call. |

Conan the Barbarian is a great choice.
I'm throwing myself under the bus for this one, but as an honorable mention, The Lost Boys Soundtrack I almost also added The Breakfast Club, but upon some research, there is only one memorable song to that movie, but it is quite fitting. Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds |

Re: Top 5 Film OSTs (Original Sound Tracks)
I seem to have gone soundtrack happy lately, so I thought I would bump this old thread.
I was watching Legends of the Fall and have always loved the music. I love the big sweeping orchestrated pieces, heavy on the strings. So, I got online and started downloading. First was Legends of the Fall. http://www.amazon.com/Legends-Fall-Origi...4305&sr=1-1 You can listen for yourself, unfortunately only short sampling. I especially love track 2, The Ludlows. The primary theme of the movie. This piece made me think of another. I sought out and downloaded the soundtrack to Rudy. http://www.amazon.com/Rudy-Original-Moti...4883&sr=1-1 Tracks 1 and 10 I love. Again so disappointed that I can only find a sample. For those who have seen the movie, most I assume, track 10 is the last game and he is carried off the field. Its amazing! Lastly, I picked up the soundtrack to Kramer vs Kramer. Beautiful arrangements of chamber music. http://www.amazon.com/Kramer-Vs-Dustin-H...5076&sr=1-1 (I hope these links work) |

Twin Peaks/Mulholland Drive- Badalamenti is awesome! If you guys know anyone that's even close to his style please let me know. ( You know-Dreamy, haunting, melancholy, bluesy stuff) It always makes me want to fire one up- and I don't even partake.
Also the indie film Niagara, Niagara has an incredible soundtrack...like not a bad song good. |

Check out the soundtrack to the Hot Spot. John Lee Hooker, Miles Davis and Taj Mahal playing together. The movie is OK but the soundtrack is exceptional. That is if you like the above musicians. Good driving music. [/ QUOTE ] Excellent choice. The Hot Spot soundtrack rides the line between soundtrack and score, yet stands on its own apart from the film. Soundtracks like this are more interesting in this thread to me than soundtracks which are merely collections of pop and rock songs (for which I would put Natural Born Killers at the top, and who doesn't love Top Gun). Another excellent soundtrack along these lines is Tune in Tomorrow by Wynton Marsalis. |
