Pujols was the MVP last year by a landslide and it was not even close! Without Pujols the Cardinals do not come close to making the playoffs!

Thank you,

you realize that:

- you are arguing pujols was worth 13 wins over the first baseman they replace him with. remember will clark's time as a cardinal, replacing mcgwire? i think jocketty could have easily replaced pujols with someone else at a loss of 6-8 wins.

- there are probably 30 players in the league whose teams would have clearly missed the playoffs without them.

- mvp != best player in the league.

any reasonable system will spit out bonds as the best player in the league roughly 10 times in his career to pujols' 0, and will rank his 2001-04 stretch as the best peak, consecutive or not, of all time. there is no contest here.

I think Pujols was worth more than 13 wins over the Cardinals replacement first baseman. Edmonds had 89 RBI's. No one else on the team had more than 61 RBI's. You would be replacing 41 Home Runs and 117 RBI's with probably about 10 Home Runs and 60 RBI's. He was pitched around alot and offered the other hitters much protection and RBI opportunities.

Joe Buck made a statement that Albert is even more valuable in the clubhouse than on the field. With his work ethic and attitude I don't doubt that statement. He is really the glue that holds that team together. The Cardinals have FAR less talent than the Yankees and Red Sox.

I think Lee had a better year on the field. I think Pujols had a much MORE VALUABLE year for his team overall. I don't think the Cardinals would have made the playoffs without Pujols. Without Lee I don't think the Cubs would have finished better than 3rd or 4th. Wait a minute.................

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

FYP

Lee carried the cubs more than Pujols carried the cards. Pujols had a far better team to work with than Lee.

The cards might not have made the playoffs with Pujols, but if you replaced Pujols with Lee, they still would have made the playoffs easily. If you stuck Pujols on the cubs instead of Lee, they probably would have finished even worse.

Albert quotes from an interview yesterday:

“I don’t play for those people. I play for my God and savior Jesus Christ. And I play for my family and teammates. And at the end of the day I can do that and I can glorify his name."

"I don’t need any type of things like that to help me out with my game. I just take the flesh that the good Lord has given me to perform, and to glorify his name every day and to help my team to win. I don’t need to do anything more than what I was doing in the past or doing right now. I’m happy with my career so far, and what I’m doing with my career. So I don’t need anything extra.”

(on barry bonds): "It’s really sad the life that he’s leading. I look at myself and I never want to lead a life like that. If I have to lead a life like that, I’d better quit this game. Because that’s not what it’s all about. It’s about God and my family and my family comes before this game.”

Albert really has his head on straight and his priorities in order. With his attitude and work ethic, if his health holds up, he should be one of the best players in the history of baseball.

I know it seems too early to make 'greatest ever' statements but his first five years match up with any players in history. He is leading the league in runs scored for the fourth consecutive year. This would be the first time in MLB history that a player has led the league in runs scored four consecutive years.

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn
