It's guaranteed. Santana is 100% injury proof and his stuff will only get better. I have verified this with my time machine.

I don't know if anybody's mentioned this or not, but it's almost impossible to know how much Theo is responsible for the dealings of the club. Is he the one signing the free agents and making trades? Is he mostly doing this, with the occasion interjection from ownership? How do we have any idea?

In Oakland, for example, we can be pretty sure that Billy Beane is making all the GM decisions for the team. OTOH, I find it hard to belive that Theo has "free reign" to make any kind of decisions he wants. His youth and inexperience + the meddlesome nature of the owners (just my personal opinion) may mean that he's hardly doing anything beyond just being a figurehead for the team.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's almost impossible to discern whether Theo is a good GM or not. It sure *looks* like he's doing his job real well. I mean, we have the best team in baseball, a stocked farm system, and are one of the top 3 or 4 favorites to win the World Series every year. So, clearly, the organization is doing very well. That may be because of Theo or in spite of him. If I had to guess, I'd say somewhere in between.

Theo is a wanna be beane who has no idea how to be beane. How hard is it for you to actually read who your friend said? He is right several times over. My brother is a RSox fan. However this thread is going to cause me to root for the rox this series. Joe Tall, you suck, you've made me a Rox fan. Eps sucks.

if you look at all the free agent SP deals that have been signed in the last few years, and try to figure out which one has the best projected value for the team, i am struggling to come up with one that looks better than dice's.

is it a lock? no, no deal is a lock. but i'm sure glad we got dice instead of gil meche or barry zito or something.

It's pretty hard to compare GM's since every GM has different resources.

its hard to take pretty much any boston fans analysis of the dice k deal seriously because of their bias. if he went to the yankees for the exact same amount of money and had the exact same first year I think everyone knows how peoples opinions would change. This is true of 99.999% of fans worldwide, myself included with the yankees.

It is really hard to judge GMs because of the variance in baseball and in how players turn out, and when you combine that with the fact that they are making decisions with a lot of information that 2+2 Sporting Events Forum posters dont have, and that sometimes their actions are heavily influenced by the owners/whoever else, and that there are a ton of other people who play huge roles in player development.
