I bet if you polled all those vetern workers 6 months ago, the majority would have said that 'unions were a good thing, but their time has passed, no need for them in today's world'. LOL

[/ QUOTE ]

WTF is a union going to do for people who are already fired?

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think waiting until you are fired is the time to start thinking about organizing. Traditionally, unions provide assistance to their unemployed workers.

[/ QUOTE ]

Assistance how? So all the money the employees gave into the union comes back to them minus fees? Yay?

[/ QUOTE ]

Assistance in finding new employment. Assistance with additional training to make yourself more marketable. Etc.

[/ QUOTE ]

Until the money that you paid them for this runs out. I would much rather just have kept the money in the first place and spend it for this if the situation comes up.

So you are building a education and training center? You have a employment counseling specialist on retainer? WOW.

I don't pay honda a monthy fee, then get a car when the situation arises that requires me to have one. I just pay them for the car when I need it. Amazingly, I don't have to build a car factory, develop a distribution network, or have any auto assemblers on retainer.

WOW.

So Honda is going to give you financial assistance, help find you a new job, and give you training, plus provide a pension when you retire?

WOW! What car dealer did you buy it from?

So then why are *unions* needed to stop that?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because at the time, nobody else was.

[/ QUOTE ]

Interesting.

DUCY?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, I guess I don't. Please elaborate. Why would the American worker be better off today if unions hadn't fought for better, safer working conditions and wages?

I don't have any idea; since I didn't claim that, asking me to explain it seems strange.

I think the point that PVN is making is that in this situation the union represented a private security firm because the government monopoly wasnt allowing people to form voluntary groups. But hey I suppose private security firms are a bad idea because everything will just devolve into chaos and anarchy like this situation did. We wouldnt want the country falling apart would we? If we dont have a monopolistic legal system how will everybody get along?
