Soulman,

I can play just about any tourney I want in the world. As part of this, I give up my action in the 109r, million, etc.

But seriously (for once) staking is great for a lot of players because it takes financial pressure off of their lives, allowing them to play free and clear poker and make solid decisions. I think there are lots of people who are much better players in this situation.

Some people just aren't comfortable putting x amount of dollars into a tournament even if it is well within their bankroll. Also as KingDan said, you give up your action in smaller tourneys for the ability to play anything you want.

There isn't any incentive for a backee to softplay the backer, but there certainly is incentive for a backer to stay out of pots with their backees.

i was backed for the ftops main event.

at no time did my backer try to take over my cards, nor did he even offer advice during hands.

if we had been at the same table it would undoubtedly have been weird, but there's no doubt in my mind that we would play straight up against each other.

This I can understand.

Can't personally quite fathom people being afraid/not liking ponying up whatever much a tourney costs if it's within their bankroll like bakes said, but ok, people are different and logic doesn't dictate all actions

Some people keep their poker bankrolls and their life bankrolls very separate.
