[ QUOTE ] btw- for every body who thinks this is some power trip, I might remind you that you don't have to deal with threads like this about you and I do. Banning people is not sexy and I wish I had to do it a lot less. [/ QUOTE ] Please, you get off on the power trip. If not, then you at least would have had the courtesy to discuss it with me via PM like I tried to do and like entertainme did last week. [/ QUOTE ] When I ban somebody, I don't feel a real obligation to have a discussion about it with their gimmic account. |

FWIW, given all the debate this has stirred up, this probably was way too iffy to use my special racialism ban powers. Won't do it again without more obvious douchebaggery afoot.

I thought the comment that Dids is the only one to make racism-bans forum-wide was a joke but apparently it isn't.
Seems weird to me. I think it should have to be WAY more flagrant than this to be ban-worthy either by an outside mod or by the mod of that forum. When I was moderator, if somebody is spamming 10 different threads in a forum with 'N-Word this and N-Word that' then I wouldn't have hesitated to ban him if I happened to be the only one around at the time. But we're talking incredibly obvious spamming and obnoxiousness where some guy is running around to different forums acting really really weird. But less than that and I would simply do the courteous thing and either mention it in the mod-forum that perhaps it is over the line somehow or perhaps ask the mod of that forum what he thought of the comment (or even just make a comment about it in the thread itself). IMO, Dids was way over the line here to make this ban outside his forum. But he seems to realize now that he probably should dial-it-back a notch or three so all is well as best I can see. |

I pointed out that it was a Hispanic chick because I was talking about ESPN's usage of Deportes employees on regular Sportscenter. My point was that if they are going to use Deportes employees to give updates on regular sportscenter then they should be speaking the acceptabele way. [/ QUOTE ] How strange that in your original post instead of "Deportes employee" you chose to use "Hispanic chick". This sounds absolutely nothing like a critique of ESPN. Instead it is racist and arguably sexist. Your usage was degrading and insensitive at BEST. I 100% support the ban. Edit: ok, 75%. Even if I had the Dids-pensation, this may be a little borderline to ban outside one of my home forums. |

I agree it was stated in a pretty insensitive and degrading way.
But that doesn't seem to be anything new around 2+2 so I think Dids jumped the gun with that ban. I'm guessing there have been hundreds of statements on 2+2 that have been more insensitive than this one that most would have not even considered to be ban-worthy. I might be slightly more sensitive about this topic since I my own GF is hispanic and even I don't think it's THAT bad. In some threads I've seen an "O RLY" owl with more slanty-ish eyes and chopsticks, asian-type hat (not idea what it's called) that is saying "O RRY" to mock an asian accent which is probably more offensive than just the use of the term "hispanic chick". maybe these get deleted or banned too for all I know. No idea. I doubt it. Not sure whether they should be or not. Anyway, I remember one of the first weeks I saw them doing that quick recap thing from the Deportes anchor and she ended with "now back to you guys" or something except that her "you guys" sounded a little funny because of her accent. And at the regular sportscenter desk the anchor pretty much repeated the "you guys" part while mocking her accent. That was the first and last time I've seen the smart-alecky SportsCenter anchors mock the accent of the Deportes reporter as I assume some sort of instructions were handed down about this. |

Politicians and ordinary citizens hide behind the fact that there is a possible nonracist interpretation of their statements. BS. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] How strange that in your original post instead of "Deportes employee" you chose to use "Hispanic chick". This sounds absolutely nothing like a critique of ESPN. Instead it is racist and arguably sexist. [/ QUOTE ] This is pretty much how I feel about the OP. Okay, maybe he worded it in a way that wasn't obviously racist, or could possibly be interpreted as non-racist, but... yeah, it is, because his sentiment clearly is. I mean, just because he didn't word it "These brown mother [censored] come over to our country, take our jobs, and can't even talk right" doesn't mean it's not racist. |
