how many defencemen on the rangers can you name?

[/ QUOTE ]

Malik, because he scored in a shootout.

Pock, but don't even know if he's still on the team.

Mara, traded from bruins.

.... That's it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm surprised you didn't name their two best: Roszival and Rachunek (sp?).

[/ QUOTE ]

You guys are forgetting Tyutin and Girardi. Pock won't play if Rachunek is healthy. Just because the Rangers don't have any big name defenseman it doesn't mean they can't play defense.

My picks:
- Sabres in 7 (ugggh...it pains me to say that).
- Senators in 6.
- Sharks in 6.
- Ducks in 5.

Buffalo vs NY Rangers
Lundquist has been hot for too long, he will cool off in this series a ton..especially after Buffalo took a huge wake up call to the face versus a team they should have dominated (which I think they did more than people are giving credit for)...So i expect a much more focused Sabres team in round 2...
Sabres in 6 or 7
---
NJ Devils vs Ottawa
Should be good strong O verse strong D matchup...Emery has stepped up his play recently, and should fair well against the Devils offense...will be a tough series with Ottawa finally starting to shed some of there playoff problems
Ottawa in 6
---
Anaheim vs Vancouver
Canucks are in big big trouble as they struggled against Turco and the Stars, Anaheim has been one of the top 2 teams all year (when healthy)..Luongo will need to do more than just stand on his head for Canucks to win this one
Anaheim in 5
---
Detroit vs San Jose
2nd best upset chance here (besides Rangers)...will be a long series which bodes well for San Jose and there depth, which I think will pull it out for the Sharks
San Jose in 7

7/8 first round. Thanks to Atlanta for starting the offseason 4 games early. Douches.

2nd round-
Sabres over NYR in 6
Ottawa over NJD in 6
Anaheim over Vancouver in 7 (I am pulling for the 'nucks!)
Detroit over SJ in 7

Should be some seriously good hockey in the next couple of weeks. How great is this time of year??

I know I'm flipping to Versus first thing when I get home every night. Looks like some great series.

Rachunek, but he's injured. Mara, because he was involved in the infamous Thornton trade. The only other guy I can name is Tyutin, but only because I had him as a d-man in a hockey pool I was involved in last year.

But I see what you're saying...

EAST

Buf over NYI in 5. CORRECT

Could be a sweep.

NJ over TB in 5. NJ in 6, close

NJ is a playoff team, plain and simple. I expect Marty to shine as usual. TB goalies suck and goalies win games in the playoffs.

Atl over NYR in 7 Way off

Tough one as both teams have similiar offense (Jagr vs Hossa/Kovalchuk) and similiar goalies.

I like Atl but can go either way.

Ott over Pit in 6. Close, Ott in 5

Tough call here as Pitt is dangerous but I think Heatley/Spezza cancel out Crosby/Malkin and the rest of Ott is deeper than Pitts.

2nd rd

Buf vs Ott Buf in 6
NJ vs Atl NJ in 6

3rd rd

Buf vs NJ Buf in 7

WEST

Det over Cal in 6 CORRECT

Cal sucks this year. Det is solid as long as Hasek is healthy, they beat Cal no prob.

Ana over Min in 5 CORRECT

Min has a good playoff team but Ana is just too deep and too strong.

Van over Dal in 6. VAN in 7, close

This will be a very tough series but Luongo will be the difference over Turco in this one. You read it here, Luongo's 1st time in the playoffs and he is going to shine, he has been waiting his whole career for this chance.

SJ over NSH in 7 SJ in 5, called the minor upset, easier than I thought.

Wow, what a series this will be. This could easily be the West finals based on the caliber of the teams. I am picking a minor upset here as I like the Thornton/Cheechoo/Guerin/Marleau offensive combo even more than the great offense of NSH.

Looking forward to this series more than any other. Well this and Pitt/Ott.

2nd rd

Det vs SJ Det in 7
Ana vs Van Ana in 7

3rd rd

Det vs Ana Ana in 6

Stanley Cup

Ana over Buf in 7

There we go!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Very good on my 1st round predicions.

Now for 2nd rd in the East I have to switch teams.

NJ vs Ott NJ in 7

Buf vs Rangers Buf in 5

Mara was not in the Thornton trade. He was in the Khabibulin trade, however.

The Rangers' top six right now is Malik, Roszival, Tyutin, Girardi, Rachunek, Mara. If Rachunek's hurt, Pock will play.

Ah. My mistake. I'm confusing him with Brad Stuart. Mara and Stuart both played in Boston at the same time.
