This would be especially so after a reload. Remember that VIP status carries over into the following mth. So I suspect some of them could have been playing a bit higher back in early/mid Apr or something and got to gold back when they actually had money.

the xtedforrestx guy who folded probably wouldn't have won anyway unless he happened to have 2 higher clubs.
He joked that he would have had a royal but obviously wasn't serious. Doesn't make what he did any less stupid but at least it seems pretty unlikley that he really threw away the winning hand so he doesn't really have to think about killing himself or anything.
