[ QUOTE ]
sushi, I've been to Nobu in London, NYC, and Vegas. Vegas is my favorite of the three. [/ QUOTE ] Tell me more Diablo, why Vegas? Oddly I've never bothered to do Nobu in NYC, but I've been to London's Nobu twice because I had an associate that used to work their. Unfortunately I never had the full Nobu experience however, we would just sit around drinking and noshing till he got off of work. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

ElD,
We are in complete agreement on Gary Danko. It is one of the best anywhere. I understand your point about Michael Mina and I agree that it is overpriced. The food can be a bit uneven, but I have had some great courses there and at the outlet in the Bellagio. They do a ahi tuna tartare with hot peppers, quail egg and pine nuts that is amazing. Other courses were less impressive. I only ate at the SF version once, shortly after it opened, so perhaps I just got lucky. I wish I got out there more often, you guys have some of the best small places anywhere. I never work my way through the list. I've always seen Boulevard with big numbers in Zagat, but my local connection has never let me eat there. I'll have to keep picking up a few extra tabs if she is steering me right. In terms of Morimotos, if you can make the reservations a few weeks out, try to get at the omakase bar. Morimoto will be personally involved in your meal and it is well worth the splurge. This guy ate there 8 times and took detailed notes and pictures that read like food porn. We actually stayed at the Ritz the night we ate there. We were easily the youngest people there by probably a decade or more. |

I like that New York and USA are different "regions".

NoSoup,
"The food can be a bit uneven, but I have had some great courses there and at the outlet in the Bellagio. ... Other courses were less impressive. I only ate at the SF version once, shortly after it opened, so perhaps I just got lucky." That's about when I ate there as well, and had the same impression. One or two of the courses were sublime. But the rest ranged from very good to quite ordinary and definitely not impressive. Uneven is a good way of putting it. And I don't think uneven is acceptable for a place that's doing a $135 tasting menu + supplements + wine. |

TT,
Mainly I like the seating layout better in Vegas than in London/NY. Also, feels like less of a scene. |

NYC A1: Definitely not Buddakan, it's pretty disappointing. I really liked Morimoto a lot, but I'd suggest not getting the omakese and ordering off the regular menu. A lot of the iteams on the regular menu (the hamachi tartare, wagyu beef tartare and the ramen soup, off the top of my head), are a lot better than the omakese. I haven't been to Megu, yet, but I hear very good things. Over all of them, Masa will blow your mind.
NYC A2: I like David Burke and Donatella better. I'm always impressed with what I get there. |

Adam,
Yeah, Masa is of course on my list, but for that much it's hard to rationalize any business dinner there, so it'll probably have to wait for a special occassion. |

Helped by having lived in london Sydney and the Bay Area, I've been to seven of these, including three of the top five. Fat Duck, French Laundry, Tetusya, Gordon Ramsey, Chez Panisse, St John, Hakkasan.
Of these the best meal by some distance was at Tetsuya, a French/Japanese restaurant in Sydney. The meal was a perfectly proportioned eleven course tasting menu (no a la carte available). Somewhere around the 6th course I literally started purring. It's a good question how much of this list is more based on reputation than current food. I'd put Tom Aikens in london ahead of all the UK restaurants I've been to on the list except the Fat Duck. And the best meal I've had in the Bay Area was at Cyrus in Healdsburg. good value too compared to many of the other top Bay Area restaurants. |
