2p2ers don't play like they post on 2p2. I know a few solid 2p2ers who lie about what they can fold in the heat of the battle, with sick weak justifications for it.

yeah, this is one of the things that affected me most when i first watched one of green plastic's videos... it's like every decision he makes is a matter of life and death... he never just makes the standard play, he always stops and thinks and thinks and thinks so intently about what he should do. not even about this hand, but about other hands he'd have in that spot and what he'll do in the future. an attitude like that can go a long way.

I don't normally read MSNL since I'm a play micro and small stakes games. I wandered in here randomly this morning and read this post.

I feel like I just hit a 1 outer.

Sick good post.

Great post OP.

On a somewhat related topic, one of the most insightful things that I have ever read about poker was the following:

[ QUOTE ]

Poker is about adapting to your opponents deflection from non-exploitable play and attack the theoretical weakness he has created. Obviously by doing this, you open up some weaknesses on your side and you have to evaluate when your opponent has taken note of them and re-adjust accordingly. Poker is about being aware of those dynamics...

[/ QUOTE ]

While this post was made in response to a question of "tricky" or "fancy" play it actually worked to drive home the point to me that there is no one "approach" or one "line" that works best at all times against all opponents, most opponents, or even one opponent.

This single statement caused me to re-evaluate my approach to the game and since doing so I have made more progress in the past two months than I had in the past two years.

great OP, it will deff help me reevaluate my play and thought process. I dont want to take anything away from the post but i want to do some "rerationalizing" for everyone.

There is a reason hand analysis are as cut and dry as they are. If we do 1 hand that way the thread will get hijacked very quickly by people disputing all sorts of things. Where each side might even be right for their site and image(loose/tight) and style(gameselection, tables open etc). Any given poker hand could be drawn out into very very long discussions. For the type of discussion you want usually has to happen IN PERSON between players. The players that could explain to you are also answering lots of other posts and cant give entire dissertations on poker theory for every hand. even if they did there would still be things left unadressed. the hand analysis on this site helps us reach a consensus where we can check ourselves and make sure we're not too out of line.

I want to add,

If you post a hand your fuzzy on its somewhat implied that you were able to rationalize different lines and you just arent sure what line of thinking was best. When someone replies "fold your kings" they are also saying that the process that leads you to that was the best one. If that isnt enough you'll usually say "because he's tight or because a checkraise shows so much stregnth?" or whatever.

Even without u mentioning it, i could have predicted u were a multitabler(8+). The more tables you play the more concerned you must be with "optimal play." Not looking to exploit people so much, just preventing yourself from being exploited. When you play less tables you have more capacity to think through each hand and come up with better than standard lines. You yourself could probably maintain a 7ptbb rate if just played 4 tables, but your goal isnt to maximize ur ptbb rate, its to maximize your hourly. (it could be argued that your goal is to maximize your lifetime winnings, inwhich case u might be better off at 4-6 tables so you can improve, etc)
