Um hello, Ernie Johnson? Inside the NBA wins Emmys and according to Wiki, some consider it the best studio show on television.

Mike and the Dog, Joe Benigno.

Sports Guy blows, I don't think anyone has mentioned him though anyway. If you actually know anything about what he's talking about you realize he's a moron. This shows when he says anything about poker, and he has my roommate constantly spouting off about "The Ewing Effect" (teams are often better after a long-time franchise player/star finally leaves, based obviously on Patrick Ewing) even though my roommate knows nothing about basketball. Knicks were better with Ewing and it isn't debatable, just take a quick glance at what they did when he was hurt and after he left Simmons you [censored] douchebag.

I hate to turn this into a lol bill simmons thread but here are some gems from his last article.

With the way October baseball works in the 21st century -- three rounds and 19 possible games over four weeks -- an extraordinary reliever might be the single greatest asset for any team

(Wait, why am I giving advice to the Yankees? Um, forget everything I just wrote -- they should make Joba a starter! Who needs closers? They're a dime a dozen!)

I find that usually people who were former players, talking about their sport in a non-bias fashioned make the best media members. Herbstreit for college football, john kruk, aikman, marino, the guys on best damn sports show are pretty good too.

Really? That may be true, if they did, or could, talk about their sport in a non-bias fashion. But, I don't think most of them can do this. They seem to always mention how things were when they played, but usually not in a historical sense. Or they will discuss what they would be thinking/feeling if they were in the same situation as X is during a particular spot in the game. And to me, their 'thoughts' or 'feelings' they describe in this situation, always seem really contrived.

I guess I more meant them being bias towards a specific team ,that they played for for example. I think the part that I enjoy hearing is that they can relate to the players now and can explain how it really is for the player. Most of the other guys are just media members who don't really know how things are in the sports world and are more or less just being entertainers.

Doesn't look like any (or many, I didn't read them all) mentions yet, but John Feinstein is gold. Not really all that visible or mainstream, but an amazing writer.

As far as names mentioned above, Costas is solid, and I like Jeremy Schaap.

I always enjoy Kenny Mayne.

Can't believe I forgot him. Easily the best.

JT the Brick is HORRIBLE. I fist pumped a lot the day that our local show stopped carrying his overnight piece of [censored].

Daryl Reaugh is a fantastic color guy for hockey, if hockey counts as mainstream.

I don't remember if I've ever heard him say anything totally outrageous (it's been awhile), but I really hate the way he carries himself.

I enjoy watching Howie Long for whatever reason. One of the few ex-athletes that looks like he takes his media job somewhat seriously.

Interesting that I don't think anyone has mentioned Al Michaels even though he is supposed to be considered one of the best and he's on all the freaking time.
I'm not blown-away by Al but he's certainly not terrible.

Also surprised that I think I'm the only one who has mentioned Marv Albert.

Don't think anyone has mentioned Dick Stockton. I find I'm liking his broadcasts more and more with each passing year. I think he's on the Yanks/Indians game tonight.
