While I completely understand your point, the one thing I would argue with is that these players/coaches still have to perform at a high enough level so that they keep their jobs (I took Wiler and Unitas out). They won't sniff those records if they aren't perennial all-pro caliber players (I was actually surprised to find out that Runyan has only made one Pro Bowl). Obviously, players have down years and not every Landry team was a world-beater, but average players and scrubs would never get the opportunity to break longevity marks.

These records are useless, sure they might not get broken but they are records for sucking. They aren't difficult to break if someone wanted to they could fumble seven times in a game.

These records are arbitrary and don't really prove anything at all.

Than there's a whole group of records that are sort of impressive but realistically they have a ton to do with positive variance/longevity

(Obv Unitas is awesome but I mean this stat has a lot more to do with positive variance than Unitas being a great qb)

Not adjusting for era is retarded sure its a record that will like never get broken but who cares? Football was played completely differently and they only played 13 games so an NFL team would have to do it in 3 fewer games.


Lastly this whole thread has a clear answer. Its not even debatable its the 6 ties in one season. There probably have been like 6 ties in the last twenty years. This will never ever happen again even though nobody cares because the record is completely useless and tells us nothing.

The poll is about whether the "record" will be broken; not whether it means anything.

By the way, the reason the "records for sucking" are also hard to break is because teams try NOT to suck, thus there is no incentive for breaking these records. For example, many pitchers could have 20-loss seasons, but usually, the manager pulls them from the rotation to save them the embarrassment.

I don't think we will ever see a team "go" for 7 ties; if it happens, it will sort of ... just happen.

Was looking at NFL records, and was suprised to see by what a wide margin Brian Mitchell leads for career punt returns and kickoff returns: 463 punt returns - 2nd place has 351 punt returns,607 kickoff returns 2nd place has 421 KO returns, and by virtue of that he has wide career margins on other career stats like return yardage, fair catches, etc..

Also, there are several NFL records that cannot be broken because of rules changes (i.e. shortest field goal).
