cbloom, where'd you hear it was a huge distortion? It seemed like it was pretty true to the actual events. The creators were lucky that this movie sort of fell in their lap near the beginning so they were able to catch so much of it on film.

Donkey Kong is one of my favorite video games ever so I've been following this film avidly. I've yet to see it though since it isn't playing anywhere near me.

First of all, read up a bit on Billy Mitchell, and you'll see he's far from being the [censored] everyone is making him out to be. The movie is told from a very distorted view. I can't say I blame them, as it seems in a documentary you often have to create a story where one isn't.

link for more info(INCLUDES SPOILER)

As for the story falling into their laps, wasn't this documentary created by friends of Wiebe's?

*spoiler in white*

I think the coolest thing about Mitchell rebreaking the record is that he killed off his final two lives well before the kill screen after only passing Wiebe by 1000 points just to keep it close.

[/ QUOTE ]

Response to spoiler:

How did you know he was well before the kill screen? If the next screen is the kill screen, thats how he can maximize his score, since he can't do anything there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Response to response:

Mitchell broke the record in public. In the write-up about his record-breaking game it says he killed off the game at level 21-1, which if you know how DK levels are numbered means he killed it off with a full 5 screens more that he could have played before the kill screen. Meaning probably 50-75k more points he could have hypothetically scored.

[/ QUOTE ]

More spoilers in white- kinda:

The article I found about that was Billy's latest record, which was not done at the time the movie was filmed. He definitely "didn't run it up" on his record game and killed off men after he had Wiebe beat, but that was in July of this year.

Charlie,

A really huge spoiler like that isn't welcome in this thread. Edit plz, or put in white.

Hey sorry about that guys. Sunday I had a couple of fantasy football drafts and some people brought over some smoke. It had been awhile and this was some really strong [censored].

Somewhere along that night in between eating two 3 topping dominos pizzas and listening to the doors I guess i decided to log on to 2+2.
I think I just meant to post the news from a month or two ago(ill put it in white EVENTHOUGH IT IS NOT A SPOILER GIVEN THE MOVIE TAKES PLACE YEARS AGO) about a new DK record being set by Billy Mitcher

but being stoned and a dumbass I apparantly referenced the end of the movie which was very ban worthy. The ban did show me that I really need to get better at MTTs and start winning some money to justify the amount of time I spend on this site...

On a side note I also apparantly decided to make some fantasy football trades while high.
I offered a trade of my Marc Bulger and Willie Parker for the other guys Eli Manning.
I must of thought I was trading for Peyton.

anyways...sorry about that.
and hopefully the giants will do well this year.

CDS

Charlie,

Your post reminds me that Ryan Beal recently removed "dumbass" from the profanity filter. The filter is like the Hotel California, things that enter rarely leave. I for one am grateful to have "dumbass" back in the fold and if you are too you should send Ryan a PM saying thanks.

of course it's a spoiler.. just because the movie takes place years ago it's not a spoiler? that is ridiculous. it's a movie. a VAST MAJORITY of the people who haven't seen said movie do not know how it ends. revealing the ending is a spoiler, by definition.

daryn,

fwiw, I pretty much assumed anyone who would be remotely interested in actually seeing this movie already knew what CDS posted. Maybe I overjudged how common knowledge that was, which is why I posted my subsequent spoilers in white.

the movie ends like a year ago.
what i MEANT to post happened 1 month ago---i.e Billy Mitchell set a new DK record last month and does not reveal the ending of the film.

In other news for fans of the flick...as someone above posted Seth Gordon is shooting a movie with actors playing the roles.
Looks like they are going hard after Johnny Depp to play Billy.

In the beginning of the film they reference a 1982 meeting held by LIFE magazine where all the best video game players in the world get together.

There's a movie about that coming out/out called "Chasing Ghosts" about that meeting i'm looking forward to seeing.

BTW i loved this movie and it's probably one of my favorite ever. I never played classic arcade games and don't plan on it either.

Also - for those of you that did see it - the twin galaxies forum is hillarious. If you didn't see the movie yet do NOT click on the website.

CDS,

Posting the end of Jean Claude Van Dammes's "Bloodsport" is a spoiler. You probably won't get dinged for it though since the movie came out ~25 years ago and is on a basic cable channel 24/7. Posting the end to a movie that was just released is a spoiler. You should get dinged for revealing it because it just came out, who the [censored] knows who the world champion Donkey Kong player is,and knowing ahead of time will change the movie. If this was 1994, posting, "The ship sinks!" would be akin to the former while posting, "Spacey is Koze!" would be akin to the latter. One makes you an idiot, and the other makes you a malicious idiot, no matter how stoned you are.

Simply put, the ending of this movie is not common knowledge, you revealed the ending of the movie, and knowing that spoiler will probably affect the experience of the movie. This is the second time you've posted a massive spoiler, so its clearly not a one-off. If you're so high you can't control your actions, that's not anyone else's problem. You're still responsible for your actions.

[censored] off, and you should be banned.
