Because right after looking up dog fighting pictures I looked at crime scene photos for people getting stabbed to death, drive by shot, and killed by repeat offender drunk drivers. However, none of them received a lifetime ban.

[/ QUOTE ]

lifetime ban only happens if the gambling is included in the plea deal.

Also, what I heard on the radio was that the plea will be for "moving dogs across state lines for gambling purposes" and not related to any animal cruelty charges. If that is so, the lifetime ban seems even worse.

So because past commissioners made mistakes, Goodell should as well?

Also, which NFL players stabbed and shot people to death and are still playing?

1 year in prison which he'll get out in 6-9 months on good behavior

he'll be suspended indefinitely from the NFL and able to apply for reinstatement after 1 year and having donated a ton of money to various animal charities.

A league that let Leonard Little play and banned Michael Vick for life would be reprehensible. I think Vick's actions are disgusting but that in no way should destroy his NFL career.

[/ QUOTE ]

Little should also be banned. Goodell wasn't commissioner then, though, so what can he do? Should he not start taking appropriate actions now because Little was allowed to play after his offenses? I'd rather he start making the right choices from this point forward instead of continuing the policy of letting scumbags continue to play.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think taking away someone's livelihood is going to make them a better person. If no team wants to sign him, fine, but if someone wants to sign him, he should be able to play.

On that, I agree with you completely. The ban should be for the disgusting method by which he tortured and killed the dogs, not for gambling on the fights.

That's just as stupid. He wasn't gambling on NFL, he was gambling on horrible horrible dog fights. If it's just gambling that is the problem, why are Joey Porter and Levi Jones not banned for being in a casino when their fight broke out?

Predictions:

(1) Vick will be sentenced to 12-18 months. No house arrest and no parole in the federal system. All inmates serve at least 85% of the time sentenced.

(2) Vick will be suspended for at least two years (to run concurrent with jail time). If it is three or more years (even lifetime), he will have the ability to apply to be reinstated before or during the 2009 season.

Vick is so unpopular that no team would do it. Plus, he would be terrible after missing a year because of jail.

I believe federal time served is min 80% without other deals.
