Whether or not there was a precedent, I've never met anyone who was big on prop bets and wasn't aware of the need to pay close attention to the wording of those propositons.

A bet was made, a condition wasn't specifically mentioned, so you fall back on what was said. As long as it's not for a larger sum of money you take it as a lesson in bet making and take the hit. If it's for a large sum of money, the friend aspect should kick in because you don't really want to [censored] over your friend, but this was a 2 dollar bet.

[ QUOTE ] Your friend was right but a big scumbag. The reason he was a big scumbag instead of an average one was because it was only a couple bucks. [/ QUOTE ] It's obvious who in this thread is a gambler and who isn't. There is absolutely no scumbagginess involved. ESPECIALLY in golf where "halve" and "win" are completely different. The bet was for a win, he didn't win. Simple. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly. This is clear cut. |

[/ QUOTE ] There is no "clarification" or "wording" problems here. This is not a hustle or a playing an angle. They halved the hole, greenmachine did not win the hole. |

[ QUOTE ]
someone said it earlier, but there are two types of gamblers, those that think it is some "noble endeavor" and those thing encourage angle shoots, and winning by wording. The latter is usually much much more fun, and more profitable. [/ QUOTE ] Sure, but you have to take into account that they are friends and the bet was only $2. What kind of friend pulls an angle on another friend for $2? BTW, I'd gladly pay the $2. It's a small price to pay to figure out if someone is a friend or not. |

You guys are all wrong. It's a total angleshoot and he's a scumbag for collecting. If he really thought that he would win on a tie, HE should clarify since its obvious the other parties did not think this is what the bet meant. This is the only right answer, I can't believe so many of your got it wrong. There should be no hustling of friends.

[ QUOTE ]
you guys are really out there hustling your friends like this? [/ QUOTE ] I would imagine that a lot depends on the previous betting history between those guys. If there's been a precedent that phrasing nittery is going to be in play, then I don't think it's a problem. Most of the people I know aren't big prop bettors, so if there was unclarity on this scale I'd probably agree to a push. |
