How many championships does Beane have again?

Poor argument; playoffs are not an accurate indicator of the best team during the season.

So a GM's duty is to build a team that is competitive during the regular season only?

Also, Charlie Manuel is the worst in-game manager I've personally ever seen.

They have a 4 dollar payroll and make the playoffs every year. Good luck doing that with anyone else.

Poor argument; he GMs a medium market team that doesn't have the bankroll of the Yankees, Mets, Sox, et all.

From Wikipedia: "In 1997, Alderson stepped down as GM and Beane replaced him. Since then, Beane has crafted the Athletics into one of the most cost-effective teams in baseball...For example, in 2006 the A's ranked 21st of 30 major league teams in player salaries, but had the 5th-best regular season record. This reflects a typical pattern throughout this decade of Beane's stewardship."

Managing in Boston might be the most complex difficult place of them all. Basically, a baseball season consists of 162 one game seasons with a tough media and demanding fans.

On top of that you have Manny being Manny and Pedro when they had him being the Diva. And Schilling who likes to yap and on and on. I think Tito does a superb job keeping this all together. Of course it helps tremendously that he won it all. This gives him a degree of acceptance, not at the level a Belicheck has but enough so that he can more or less do things his way and not worry so much about getting fired.
