Well as a racker I think you're a lot better off with a solid and a stripe on the back corners. Otherwise you give the breaker a greater chance to make two solids, or make one solid and have solids more spread out and stripes more bunched up in the middle.

The answer is #2. If you don't hit one of your balls(or the 8 ball if thats the only one left for you) and don't hit at least 3 walls, other player gets ball in hand. Thats the way ive always played it. If you hit 3 walls and don't hit an opponent ball, it's the other player's turn with no ball in hand

[ QUOTE ] There may be an "official rule" in bar pool, but it never ever ever matters. Ever. Local custom trumps all. A prime example would be if you make one solid on the break - are you solids or is it still open. I've played pool in at least 200 bars in my life and it's roughly split down the middle. [/ QUOTE ] This went overlooked, but I didn't realize this was a bar-specific rule. I thought true billiards ballas always had to make a ball after the break to officially get stripes or solids. I don't play much, don't like it much, and suck, and our group generally plays the "make it take it" rule, or if you made 1+ stripe and solid ball, you had the right to pick which you would want to be. [/ QUOTE ] This is super standard that you have to hit another one in after the break. The only time I don't follow this rule is if I'm playing at my old man's house, in which case he plays by such crazy rules it's hardly even 8ball anymore. |

that 3 wall crap is hogwash [/ QUOTE ] oh really? http://www.soyouwanna.com/SITE/syws/...hootpool4.html ""I didn't hit any balls!" If you hit the cue ball and it doesn't come into contact with any other ball, then you lose your turn unless it bounces off 3 walls of the table before coming to a stop. If you do scratch, then Monica can pick up the cue ball and move it on, next to, or behind the head spot." |

[ QUOTE ] yeah.. really. [/ QUOTE ] everyone i've ever played with has played with the 3 wall rule. [/ QUOTE ] that's the whole point of this thread you idiot, that nobody knows the real rules. [ QUOTE ] 4.11 LEGAL SHOT (Defined) On all shots (except on the break and when the table is open), the shooter must hit one of his group of balls first and (1) pocket a numbered ball, or (2) cause the cue ball or any numbered ball to contact a rail. Please Note: It is permissible for the shooter to bank the cue ball off a rail before contacting the object ball; however, after contact with the object ball, an object ball must be pocketed, or the cue ball or any numbered ball must contact a rail. Failure to meet these requirements is a foul. [/ QUOTE ] |
