Sounds like a good plan. That's a nice neighborhood and you'll enjoy it.

I wouldn't take 101 to Woodside at rush hour from there - go El Camino. It just takes too long to get to and from the highway.

I've never done this drive in the morning, but Willow to Middlefield to Woodside Rd. may be your best bet. There are also ways to skirt Middlefield to the south and use side streets. There's little sense in getting involved with 101. Both Willow and Marsh can be clotted in the am.

Also, if walking to downtown Paly from the Menlo apartment you cross via the railroad trestle and it becomes a very short, direct route.

jfk is probably right about the work route, but it depends on the time of day (a 30 minute window makes a huge difference there). He's 100% correct about walking to the bars.
