Great thread. Thanks for your service.

Does it bother the soldiers that all these people advocating for the war either dodged real military service or (for the younger ones) refuse to enlist?

Are the majority of vets Republicans? What do most think of Bush/Cheney?

Are you now banging lots of hot Japanese tail? (Pics plz if you are TYVM)

[/ QUOTE ]

NP

Yeah it's kind of annoying.

Lots os Republicans. It's probably split in half between people who think Bush is a retard and those who think he's a hero.

Wow 4drugs srbiz! Good thread tho'

You keep saying "on my second tour blahblahblah"

How terrible was your first? Why? More fighting or just less organized? Ever get any positive contact with Iraquis?

[/ QUOTE ]

1st tour sucked hard, 2nd was considerably better.

Yeah I worked on an Iraqi Army base for like three months and some were very cool. Of course some were douchebags. There just like anybody else. One thing that suprised me was that most of them were very well educated.

First off, thank you for your service.

1. In your experience, are the insurgents terrorists from other countries that come in to fight the US or Iraqi's fighting for the soveriengty of their nation?

2. This may sound silly or simplistic, but here goes. When there are offensives by the US, how do you identify the insurgents/enemies? Do soldiers go house to house? Or do they just establish order and a presence?

Thank you.

[/ QUOTE ]

In my experience I dealt with all Iraqi insurgents as far as I know, but I don't think I would have recognized the difference between Syrians,Iranians,ETC. However smarter people than me are saying they are the ones doing the fighting so I believe them.

Now it is very hard to identify an insurgent until you catch them red-handed. That's another thing that's very un-nerving.

Do all the guys driving the humvees hate being over there?
I had a friend who was in army cav and he was always driving the armored humvees and ended up getting hit.

I got to think all those guys know that it is kind of like rolling the dice everytime they drive up and down those same streets everyday. you figure they would be either on serious edge every day or going out of their minds

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, convoys suck. Now with the Up-Armor your much safer but it still sucks. Alot of people lose there minds in one form or another.

Is it true the last people you can trust are the people you're actually working with (Iraqi police/military)?

[/ QUOTE ]

The estimate 1 of 3 Iraqi police/army are low-level intell collectors. Yeah they are shady

I lost a good friend of mine over there in the typical IED/Roadside blast scenario. Props for having the nuts to do it, not once but twice (not much choice on the 2nd I'm sure). I don't have a question really. I just wanted to say thanks for going over when called. I may not agree with the Iraq portion of the "War on Terror" but none the less I thank and salute the military personnel for serving when called upon.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry about your friend. Most Military members feel the same way as you believe it or not.

If you knew a war was going on, would you have signed up?

I probably would have anyways, but it's hard to say.

Thank you very much for your service to the country; I just wish politicians/generals had spent it on more worthwhile things (Afghanistan, Kosovo, etc.)

In your experience, is the military--especially those actually fighting the war--a good representative sample of the US public? I hear a lot of complaints about the poor being sent off to war, but I don't know how valid they are. That half of the troops around you support Bush seems to dispute that. Other than there being more men than women, did there seem to be a surplus of poor people/minorities?

Sorry for making this long winded; thanks for opening the thread.
