Re: Kinda common spot but one I still have trouble with

Jay, I don't understand why you don't bet the turn. Pretty sure lower PPs look you up if you bet the turn after checking the flop. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, I like this line. |

All, Please stop saying c-bet-> fold. Its gross to put in 50bb before the turn if youre planning on folding with 100bb stacks. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure if you're quoting me to respond to me, but I advocated betting 30bb on the flop leaving around 175bb behind. |

Re: Kinda common spot but one I still have trouble with
Part of maximizing your EV is avoiding murky situations for stacks. When he puts AI on the river, you're looking at easily making a big mistake whether you call or fold, so lets avoid getting there. I would c-bet the flop. If he calls or raises, were done with it. Sure, he could be calling to float you or raising putting you on not having an ace. But in general preflop he chased his ace, got there, but were not going to turn that chase into a correct one. He collects our c-bet and thats it. You need reads to
play it as OP did. Take note of the hand and move on... |

I lead here all the time and slow down on the turn if called. Probably make a $45-$55 dollar bet on the flop.

Play it the same as if you liked the flop.
Better question to ask yourself: Why did villian check behind? The answer warrants taking a bet-fold line on the turn. |

Why did villian check behind? The answer warrants taking a bet-fold line on the turn. [/ QUOTE ] Good question. I def bet the turn (vs unknowns), but when we don't, we have to ask why he bets the turn. It could be with a hand, draw, or bluff. Not saying most opponents will play like me, but I know I'm probably betting close to 100% of my range here when it's pretty obvious OP doesn't have an A. OP should figure to have the best hand a lot after calling the turn bet. But what the hell is villain betting on the river? I think most villains don't line up a big bluff like this, especially after being called on the turn. I honestly think that, if we were ahead on the turn, we just got hit by the river. Facing this river bet, I'd expect to be up against a combination of weird monsters and daring bluffs, but very rarely just an A. That said, we never really know how likely an unknown is to be bluffing, so I think the river is a fold. FWIW, I normally bet the flop here, but I've gotten a ton of insight on why I should be mixing it up with both KK/QQ, and hands like AK/AQ, as well as total air. All helps in having a balanced strategy. Of course, this is much easier to do vs. known opponents. Anyway, regardless of what I hold when I check the flop, I think betting the turn is best vs an unknown. |
