does the pointlessness of your life bother you?

ive seen the heirarchy of needs posted on 2+2 a few times and i dont believe in it. i think its pretty silly.

i dont know how communism has changed things, but consider the vietnamese people. they worship their ancestors and it plays a monumental part in their everyday life. poor people all over the world are religious and spiritual.

OK, I'll admit that I've just skimmed this thread, but throughout, people seem fully prepared to accept the premise that their life is "pointless". What's the dilio? Seriously, you all believe that there is no purpose to your life? Or no reason to exist in the first place? I don't even honestly get the question, though it's interesting.

If you were saying, "Would it bother you if you found out your life was pointless?" then my answer would be no, because that's an arbitrary status, so if it was important to me, I could invent a point for myself, problem solved. Of course, if there was no point and that didn't bother me (I don't think it would though it's sort of a hard concept to grasp), then the question would be answered.

Anyway, my life isn't pointless. I determine the point of it, and surely some others have determined the point of my life for themselves.

there's a difference in the 'pointlessness of life' making you depressed and it simply bothering you.

I mean, the pointlessness kind of bugs me, but I'm also mostly comfortable with that. Nothing I can do about it and I'm not going to dwell on it. But if you ask me, "Is life pointless and are you somewhat bothered by that?" then the answers would be yes and yes.


But I'm not depressed. Just the opposite in fact.

I embrace life in spite of, or perhaps because of, its pointlessness. Mostly because its more fun that way.
I'm passionate about a zillion different things that I am constantly aware are pretty pointless in and of themselves.
Some of these things include:
- trying to play the piano
- feebly scoring a goal in rec-soccer
- trying to not be ocmpletely horrible at poker
- making my 26,000th excessively wordy post on 2+2 because it's fun to discuss all sorts of silly stuff
- my GF whom I'm crazy about
- a turkey and ham on wheat foot-long at subway with tons of veggies
- watching my 6 zillionth baseball game either live or on TV or listening on the radio. Pretty much just a traditional American-male way of killing-time.

etc etc etc.
All of these things are pretty much 100% pointless in the grand-scheme of things and most of them are pretty pointless even in the little scheme of things I guess.
I have a constant awareness of their pointlessness.

Somehow it makes it easier for me to celebrate or be passionate about something as monumentally pointless as the awesomeness of a subway footlong.

Pointlessness of life and acknolwedgement thereof do not have to lead at all into depression imo.

In short, life isnt pointless if your entire existence is put towards maximizing your happiness in every way possible.

I found I became a lot happier once I stopped worrying about being happy so much.

i am not a nihilist, but yeah I think that my life is completely pointless and random, although I still think that my life is worth living and enjoyable.
