[ QUOTE ]
Can some of you that have hitchiked or picked up hitchikers post where you live?

I grew up in Westchester, NY and I have NEVER seen a hitchiker here in my life.

[/ QUOTE ]

I grew up in NC, and now live in Atlanta. theres a lot more hitching in the south, and FLA has more than everybody else put together. I rarely passed through FLA without seeing a few. I've only ever picked up one hitcher in the north (just off of I-95 in jersey) and she wasn't just thumbing it... she came up to me at a Boston Market because of my NC plate and asked me if I could give her a ride to Baltimore.

in FLA, there will be thumbers on the on and offramps regularly.

I guess not, because the only times I've ever picked people up are when it's obvious they're walking because their car broke down. In that case it becomes a simple matter of trying to behave with a little kindness and who they are doesn't really matter.

I just completed a 3k mile road trip and did not see one hitchhiker. Amazing.

I have picked up plenty of hitchhikers in the Colorado mountains, including one guy who was riding a bicycle cross country and had a breakdown. He smelled terrible, but was pretty grateful when I dropped him off at the nearest bike store, which was 30 miles down the road.

I'm one of the guys who writes to Penthouse Letters regularly. So yeah, I pick up a lot of hot female hitchhikers.

The only people more stupid than people who pick up hitchhikers are hitchhikers.

I've picked up tons of hitchhikers. Never had any scary experiences. There have been a few that were annoying and I wished they would just shut up. I've only picked up two women. One was in college and pretty cute and totally normal. no sex and I didn't really try. The other was batshit crazy and I felt really bad for her because she obviously had a horrible life. Every once in awhile I'll pass on a hitchhiker because of a bad vibe. For those of you worried about picking up a psycho, the risk is much greater for the hitchhiker. Think about if you were a predator. Would you go hitchhiking to find your victims?

Was this back in your days as a lumberjack, because already having an axe/chainsaw/hookhand on your person, thus evening up the axe/saw/hook count is probably a pretty key step.
