i suspect that it is not people's genders that make people good drivers or bad drivers.

by way of comparison: i read once that people who go to church reguarly live longer. I suspect that it is not actually the act of going to church that keeps people alive, but rather, that the very large correlation between going to church and avoiding other risky activities (eg, I assume that regular church goers are less likely to be on heroin, for example).

i think a similar situation exists here.

the actual distinguishing feature in what causes accidents is based on other individual factors - aggressiveness, driving attitude, etc. it just happens that those risk factors are more prevalent in more men.


selecting people according to gender is only useful for insurance companies and newspapers - neither have a sufficient incentive for them to critically analyse individuals sufficiently (compared to the cost of doing so).
