Now they are talking about voiding Giambi's contract...yikes, seems a little rough, no? His comments were pretty idiotic but voiding his contract reeks of scapegoating.

[/ QUOTE ]

Giambi can only Dh and gets injuried 24/7 plus he is waaay overpaid...why wouldnt they want to void it?

[/ QUOTE ]

Of course they would want to.

But it just continues the recent spate of hypocrisy and desperation from the team.

1) I think it's fair to quote the price of $28M when talking about the Clemens singning, because we're looking at it from the Yankees perspective, and that's what they gave up to have him on the team, is it not? (I mean, am I misunderstanding the proration involved?)

2) As was pointed out on BP, if Clemens didn't sign w/ the Yankees, he would probably have signed with the Red Sox. Since Clemens figures to be worth about 3 wins over either team's replacement starter during the rest of the season, the Yankees paid $28M for an expected swing of about 6 games in the AL East race. That's a lot, but it's not a ridiculously awful purchase.

3) No, the Yankees are not done for the year. A division title will be a tall order, though. If you're curious, BP's PECOTA-adjusted postseason odds report gives the Yankees a 4.5% chance of winning the division, and a 26% of making the postseason. That doesn't account for the Clemens signing. I don't know how the fact that a bunch of Yankees will eventually get healthy and return affects the numbers.

Ok, how much did the Yankees pay to have Clemens, including the luxury tax implications?

Luxury tax isn't calculated until after the season is it?

I think that's right.

anyways, salary discussions involving the Yankees are just dumb, since this isn't the NFL and it matters only in an academic sense if they overspend.

lol at the yankees trading damon. who are they going to get for him? we'll give you matt clement and some of those cool new david ortiz sneakers that tavarez was wearing.

also, they won't be able to void giambi's contract. no chance. forget it.

the yankees could still definitely win the wild card, i think the division is pretty unlikely. if they win the WC, look out, cause it will mean they were hot as hell the last two months and that's always dangerous.

well sure, you can put it that way, but when half your team is in AARP that's a big 'if'
