one time I had a franchise in 2003ish. Colts released/didnt resign Manning, Edgerin, and Harrison all in the same offseason.

I still haven't figured out how to score on breakaways in NHL94, though - KBZ, how'd you play NHL94 online?

[/ QUOTE ]

You should be able to score nearly every breakaway.

well that helps - thanks.

i can score on maybe 25%. i move straight in on the goalie, fake, and then turn back straight and shoot - the goalie doesn't always buy the fake.

easiest way to explain it is this.

say you have a right handed player. he has the puck on a breakaway, coming down the right wing. (you are also skating 'up' the screen). skate diagonally to the left, until the puck is equidistant between the goal pipes, and you are just about to crash into the goalie. then, pull back to your forehand, and shoot the puck at the right goal post.

that is 'the move'. it works equally well with lefties, and once you master it it works just as well switching from your forehand to your backhand.

ty kbz - pretty sure i was doing that with my center, i think i have the habit of stacking my right handed shots on the left wing and vice versa, so usually the player is on his backhand doing this, and therefore fails.

ah, well, you can do it that way, it's just harder. you have to go further across the goal (say 3/4 of the way across) and pull back to your backhand at the exact right moment. it also helps to have a fast/agile guy who can move faster than the goalie.

NHL '98 (for computer) had a similar breakaway "move".

You need to start the move well before you get to the goalie. But if you come down the ice, wind up your slapshot, hold it as you cross diagonally across the ice towards the goal, wait for the goalie to go down, release the windup, shoot, score.

well the goalie will often move out of the way for the faster players coming in from either side - in 94, the slapshot from the slot is far less effective than in nhl95, even guys like mogilny and kamensky can't consistently score from there - still it's tough to unlearn the habit of putting guys on their off-wing for the sake of one-timers. the goalie in nhl94 is much more vulnerable shortside.
