Do people actually buy leather Tumi bags?

Sadly (and inexplicably), some do.

As long as were on the subject I need a better gym bag. I swim alot so something for the wet stuff would be essential.

too student/bike messengery?

i'm not worried about looking professional but i also don't want to look i've got your delivery on my back.

24 years old, will be used to transport laptop and other stuff in nyc

i looked at this:

but there was almost no extra room once you put a laptop in. and i don't think i like the way the vertical bag sits on my hip, especially for lots of walking.

i don't like the look of any regular backpack i've seen that has builtin laptop protection.

maybe my best choice is sleeve + regular back pack?
any recommendations for regular backpacks? i haven't bought a backpack that didn't have straps for a skateboard since i was in elementary school so i have no idea where to look for stylish backpacks.

edit: thinking about this a little more i decided that i do want a back pack.

so.

backpack suggestions plz. needs to hold a 15" macbook pro, preferably easy access to an ipod, space for more stuff like papers and uh... you know... business papers... man

and i'm not afraid of crazy styles

edit 2: i would like to encourage crazy styles that might somehow maintain and air of professionality (ie i would be able to take it into a very relaxed office setting)

For anyone that wants to see some cool bags, go to lifehacker. com and check out their recent special called "Show Us Your Go-Bags". Based on this thread and that lifehacker series, I think I am going to pick up a timbuk2 bag.

A friend of mine has been selling these bags by a company called SAG. It's a Japanese company. Some of them are pretty cool and some I don't like, but maybe you can check them out. FWIW, I did like the backpack.

It's low tech and cheap, but I have a black Jansport messenger bag that is near indestructible and has followed me all over Asia and Europe.

mason,

Double-strap is king for your back and if you're laptop weighs more than 4 pounds.
