Re: French people tried to kick me out of their club, Paris trip repor
[ QUOTE ]
Speaking a little French is important there. If you don't speak French, atleast don't act like they are expected to understand English. [/ QUOTE ] I hear this a lot and think to myself that I don't expect them to understand my language, I expect them to try and accomodate anyone who is a customer, whatever their handicap is (language barrier being relevant here). If you are going to turn around and just leave me standing there as if I didn't just ask you a question, you better be prepared to face the consequences (i.e. I will look for another, more accomodating, place to spend my money). What difference is there between this and ignoring someone who is in a wheel chair and may not be able to see above a counter? Would the clerk simply ignore any sounds that came from the other side fo the counter or would they try and see what the customer there wanted? This type of attitude really pisses me off. |

[/ QUOTE ] A simple "Bon jour. Je ne parle pas francais, parlez vous anglais?" is all you need. Agreed, if they are going to shrug and say no (whether they really can't or because they don't feel like helping you) then sure, go ahead and leave. But usually a little polite effort like that works wonders. |

Friends of mine went to Europe ten years ago for their honeymoon. They spent 3 days in England, then went to Paris to spend 4 days. They went back to England after a single night because of the way they were treated. And now they live in Ireland. Yes, their rudeness costs the French tourist money.

Show us the pictures already. I can't remember the last time I had an 18 year old girlfriend who wasn't even 18.

The Aviation Club is known to be quite fastidious concerning the dress code, and it is true for foreigners and french. Its one club and not 'the french people", there are cardrooms where you can go dress casual (Cercle concorde). You just tried to enter without the correct dress and they accepted you, its useless to complain about french people.
