There was a case similar to this on judge judy except small-scale. An employer paid an employee 7100 instead of 170, employee spent the money before they asked for it back, and said i don't wanna give it back (because god told her she was supposed to get it). It was pretty much concluded that this woman could've had criminal charges filed against her.

[/ QUOTE ]

What charge? Certainly not fraud, larceny, or embezzlement...

1. Close the account so you break the direct deposit link
2. Put the money in a separate interest bearing account (CD?)
3. Wait out the statute of limitations
4. ???
5. Profit

Keep the money. If they ask for it back say you've spent it. It's not your fault they forgot to stop shipping you money.

[/ QUOTE ]

I personally know someone that discovered their bank account went from ~$600 to $50,600 overnight for no reason. He bought some new stuff for his place and went on a $5k holiday. The bank asked for the money back. He didn't pay, claiming couldn't afford to. He did time.

My advice is to alert them. Big multi-nationals WILL hunt you down.

This isn't the same thing. There is a reason why his bank account has more money in it. The reason is the company gave it to him.

As compared to the example I gave? There is a reason why it was in his bank account as well - mistake. You will find this continual pay he is receiving is a mistake. They will want it back.

Haha, this is one of those things I always wanted to happen because working sucks, but if it did I don't know what I'd do. I'd probably post on an internet forum asking for advice...oh wait...

In Nevada, it's theft.

Are people really so stupid as to not think this is illegal?

Irrational? Someone made a mistake, you know it's a mistake, and you really think you should be allowed to keep it?
