I love Taxi Driver, but I don't "get" Raging Bull.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's bizarre. I would think Taxi Driver would be more difficult to "get" than Raging Bull. Raging Bull is much more straight forward in its story telling.

As with most my top 3 would be Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, and Goodfellas. I can't be bothered to rank them as I would probably change my mind as soon as I made the post.

If King Of Comedy goes out in round one it will be a travesty.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed; I love that movie. But this whole poll is a travesty anyway (ok I'll shut up now).

Last Temptation over After Hours ?? The Aviator over Alice ??

Boy, those folks are young.

(BTW, Age of Innocence will get eliminated in the first round, no doubt, yet it's quite an under-appreciated work. One man's opinion, natch.)

I like Taxi Driver, Cape Fear and Raging Bull a lot. Goodfellas is very good too.

I'm old.

Goodfellas probably had a lot more impact on some of you younger guys, and maybe the older movies had a little less.

A few good movies, some ok movies, and some kinda bad movies. Scorsese is one of the better directors, but that isn't really saying very much since 95% of movies suck.

If I had to watch one of these movies repeatedly, it would probably be Goodfellas.

I assume I am the only person who thinks Goodfellas is slightly overrated.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh come on man, you gotta admit that the steadycam shot in Goodfellas is the money. I mean, I heard it took 4 days to light for that shot.

[/ QUOTE ]Technical difficulty in mounting a shot has little to do with the artistic merit of the shot. Or the film itself.

If technical difficulty alone was the criterion, the greatest film of all time is probably The Russian Ark. One-shot, full length, all-traveling.

Agreed, it is one of the few movies I've watched where I was really in awe of the director as I was watching it.

I mean, I understand the story of Raging Bull. I just don't understand why everyone thinks it is so awesome.

How many of his movies were narrated by the characters throughout most of the film?

But the Coens, and Robert Altman, Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino....

[/ QUOTE ]

How can you compare them? I mean, Tarantino totally bites everything from Scorcese.

[/ QUOTE ]

His two good movies did anyway.
