There are partial numbers of population or medals?

I'm not sure they really are. Medal-predicting forumals based on population and economics have shown the US to basically perform equal to their expected level.

There's your answer.

I think we can add the addition to of physical education in public schools in grades 1-6 that was started by Kennedy in the early 60s. Since then teaching of sports, sports training and sport camps have all come out of that movement.

No, but there are non-integer ratios.

I'm assuming you're talking about soccer...

Notice that no one, and I truly mean no one, cares about soccer in the US. If we cared even 25% about soccer as other countries, I feel like we would be a dominant force.

Look at the strides alone that the US has made in the last 3 World Cup's and that's with no one caring.

You cannot tell me that if soccer was a key sport in the US that we wouldn't be a dominant force with all the pure athletes we have playing in various other sports.

I dunno, ranked #7 in the FIFA ratings IIRC. That's certainly not elite, but it's at least respectible.

Seriously. Didn't the Germans need an illegal handball to beat us by 1 goal in the quarterfinals of the last World Cup?

These ratings overvalue the quality of US soccer. We're (!) more like 13 or so. Although I'm still pissed Mexico got a seed and an easier road. I think the US will continue to progress at the international level in soccer, but probably not at this World Cup due to their tough draw.
