You should always tip, I find it amazing how cheap some people are. I think it's laughable that people can take down $300+ pots and tip the dealer a buck or 2, that is just beyond cheap. When I'm playing and I see this happen I just say wow. If the tip money you give out really matters to your bottom line you shouldn't be playing poker, because if the tip money is hurting your pocket I can imagine how much losing a buy in can hurt your pocket.

I don't think it's that unreasonable, assuming said player always tips $1 or $2 per pot. After all, the dealer did no more work on this hand than ny other.

However, I do agree that a big pot would be a nice time to be generous, especially to a competant dealer.

I tip $1 every pot, regardless of size and I'm the furthest thing from cheap.

For me tipping is a Karma thing. When playing games of chance I'd much rather have good juju than bad juju. I believe tipping has a better chance of giving me good juju so therefore I always tip.

How can you tip when you're already down? It's physically impossible! Obviously, tipping is something you can only do while you're still standing up!

<whisper, whisper>

Oh! Well, that's different, then. Never mind!

I tip less or not at all when I'm down. However, I definitely make exceptions when the dealer is very talented. I know its illogical and that the dealer shouldn't suffer for my bad luck, but its really just because I feel obligated to tip more when I'm ahead. Hopefully, my good tips when I'm ahead balance out for my reduced tips when I'm down.

This is probably due to the desire to look like a high-roller. When you are winning, you feel like you are unstoppable and everyone will love you the more generous you are. When you are losing, you want to preserve every chip you can in order to avoid making your loss even bigger. This boils down to keeping track of sessional results instead of long term ones.

I don’t tip because society says I gotta. I tip when somebody deserves a tip. When somebody really puts forth an effort, they deserve a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, that [censored]’s for the birds. As far as I’m concerned, they’re just doing their job.

I guess I have always tipped as my big sis earned her way through college by waitressing. However I feel bad for the dealer when someone doesn't tip. I am not talking about lazy, sleepy, grumpy, got better things to do dealers but your avg upbeat dealer with personallity. Does anyone have advice on how to encourage nontippers? I recently was in a casino with a young gent who I can't figure out didn't know that it was common courtesy to tip as he normally played only tournaments. But most of the time I bring it up to someone I get the hour speel on how they don't need to tip.

You know what this is? It's the world's smallest violin, playing for all the dealers out there.
