I have a hard time deciding what 2 books that everyone shoudl be forced to read, but I'm pretty sure that the ones people have come up with in this thread are terrible choices. Having every american attempt to read the Feynman lectures on physics is beyond pointless. The only suggestions here that have made any sense whatsoever are the basic finance suggestions. [/ QUOTE ] This is very true. As a social worked I deal with families on a daily basis who are unable to help their 3rd graders with their math homework. There is no book that is written at a high school level that more then 65% of America can understand. Ken |

"Politics and the English Language" by George Orwell is an absolute must. It's only a few pages long. Trust me.

1) The Republic - Plato
2) Ishmael - Daniel Quinn If the majority of people understood these 2 pieces there may be a chance to create a sustainable society. Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed by Jared Diamond is also a good choice. |

Catch 22
and i would either pick leviathan or common sense but i guess common sense, but without any other readings i think leviathan could be dangerous. In summary Catch 22 and Common Sense i also disagree with a lot of peoples books here |
