Some people just want their ipods to look new and clean. Others don't mind seeing the wear and tear. I would assume it's just a personal preference. Myself, I like a skin to keep my Ipod looking new(ish).

I never understood the whole skin thing. What is the point in covering an iPod? Are you trying to preserve resale value or something? Who cares if you keep the outside scratch free if you ever see it?

Personally I would just get annoyed that it makes it bigger.

If you have a video one then I assume you would rather the screen not get all scratched up.

I bet that's excellent for the video quality. Do you leave the protective plastic on your TV screen and monitor too?

The video quality is the same. No, I don't leave the plastic on my TV or Monitor, but I do put the plastic back on when I carry them around in my pocket.

Earbuds suck, of course. Wear good, comfortable headphones. I think people wear the earbuds because they think it somehow makes them cooler.

[/ QUOTE ]

My theory is that they want people to know they have an ipod.

[/ QUOTE ]

cos they've always wondered what it'd be like to get mugged. people who use the earbuds are dumb on so many levels...

[/ QUOTE ]

They're dumb? On many levels?

Maybe they just don't give a [censored].

[/ QUOTE ]

, they're asking to get mugged
, if they're trying to look stylish they're failing since everyone and their grandmother has an ipod at this point
, the sound quality sucks
, they are worse for your hearing than regular headphones

[/ QUOTE ]

I know zero people that have gotten mugged while wearing iPod earbuds, and I know a lot of people with iPods.

Maybe they're just using what's there and easy.

Maybe they're just using what's there and easy.

This is such a bs argument and would only ever be used by someone trying to bash these things. Earbuds are extremely functional for people that use their iPods while walking. I have to put mine in my backpack when i get to class, or my pocket when i get somewhere else, having big headphones would be a pain.

Stop being an idiot.

[/ QUOTE ]

Where do you live? Cos I know several people who have had their iPods stolen in Brooklyn.

In any case, it's certainly true that the sound quality is terrible and that they're worse for your hearing than regular headphones.

[/ QUOTE ]

I live in Manhattan, maybe your friends are idiots.

I have Shures E2c's, the sound quality is fantastic and they block out nearly all background noise, so I can listen to music at very low levels, even in loud environments. basically you're wrong, and you're being an idiot, like I said.

[/ QUOTE ]

1, i never said these people were my friends. and yes they are kind of dumb. or naive anyway.

2, this is all a huge misunderstanding, as i'm definitely not talking about ALL earbuds. only the ipod-brand white ones which come with the ipod. shure earbuds are nice, i like them although i still prefer regular headphones.

Well you could use something clear like a previous poster stated. Even if you don't using something clear it at least protects the screen when you are not using it. I know this isn't rocket science but c'mon....
