The only answer is Bob Avellini.

Elway, Brady, Elway, and I don't think any are particularly close, especially the Elway ones.

John Elway went to the SB in 1986. That year his defense was ranked 21st in yards allowed and 15th in points allowed. Gerald Willhite and Sammy Winder were was their featured RBs.Their leading WRs were Mark Jackson and Steve Watson. If you're asking "Who?" then you're not alone.

The next year, he took them to the SB again. Their defense had improved a bit, but still wasn't great- 7th in points allowed, 9th in yards allowed. John Elway was one of only 3 pro bowlers on the entire team, yet he still led them to the 2nd ranked offense in the entire NFL. Winder was back at RB for them. Ricky Nattiel and Vance Johnson were their leading WRs, although neither of them even had 700 yards.

In 1989 he once again made the SB. This year he actually did have some talent around him on defense. But he was the only pro bowler on offense. But I'll grant you that this team was much better than the previous ones.

And of course everyone knows about his two Super Bowl winning teams in the 90s, which were great all around teams.

Looking at these facts, it amazes me that so many people think that Manning is better than Elway.

The superbowls that Denver went to in the 80s were during a period when the NFC was vastly superior to the AFC.
The Colts have had the misfortune of playing in the AFC now that it is the dominant conference, and have lost to the eventual superbowl champ for 3 consecutive.
Imagine an alternate universe where realignment sent the Colts to the NFC instead of the Seahawks.
Had the Colts been in the NFC for the last several years there is a very strong chance that they would have been to the superbowl by now.

very fair point.

Assani, the sports forum almost imploded when you posted that. I'm not sure this forum can handle us amicably agreeing.

Dan Fouts.

[/ QUOTE ]I actually did consider him, but since my qualifications were only after 1982, I decided that he didn't do enough AFTER 1982 to make the list.

I think Young was the best of the bunch as well. It's too bad he couldn't knock off another of those great Cowboys teams to solidify his legacy.

[/ QUOTE ]

Young was a great QB, but the clutch factor is what made Montana better.

For the record: Elway, Manning, Manning.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ironic that you would mention the 'clutch' factor when deciding between Young and Montana and then have those poll answers.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think by the time his career is over, Manning will have demonstrated his 'clutchness' multiple times in the playoffs and have at least one ring to show for it.
