[ QUOTE ]
I dealt the 2005 WSOP and just wanted to put a few things out there.

This year was very disappointing in terms of dealer tokes. First place---stiffed the whole staff. Most of the 'in the money' finishers did not take care of the dealers. It is unfortunate because many of the best dealers will not be making the trip out there next year, and you will be stuck with many "break-in" dealers, who will without a doubt have a negative influence on the WSOP.

On a good note, I would like to thank Greg Raymer, who thanked the dealers for the great job. We appreciate the recognition.

If anyone has a chance, there is a really good artice in this months TopPair magazine on page 63.

If it makes you feel any better, I went to college and grad school for 6 years and only made about $25/hr. after I graduated. You had about 3 or 4 weeks of training and (at $30/hr.) are making more than a lot of college graduates.

If you really feel like you are underpaid, then don't go back next year.

Default Re: And THIS one should be titled \"How selfish do you have to be?\"

1. Granted a traveling tourn dealer should make a little extra to cover expenses.

2. How much should a dealer make? It is a job that takes six weeks to learn and six months to master. Sure you have to put up with a lot of negative environments, but who is forcing you into the profession? Who is forcing anyone to travel and bear their own expenses? Seem like $35 an hours is a more than decent wage for dealing.

3. If I go to a rest. that takes out tips, that is what I tip. If I am left to tip on my own I will tip 10-25% depending on the food and serice. When I am forced to tip no matter what, then I am not real motivated to leave extra.

Knowing that a lot of players (I'm not saying all or most) will not be generous when it comes to tipping, I would guess most dealers would rather be guaranteed a decent tourn. by having the tips taken out of the entry fees.

Edit: I also recall hearing from reliable sources that dealers were making considerably more than that in the weeks leading up to the main event--like 30/40 a down.

[/ QUOTE ]
A friend of mine who switched from pro playing to dealing for the series said that he was making about $25 per down, early in the festival.

Since he is coming from a players perspective, and not a dealers perspective, I tend to believe what he said.

$30 + an hour is way more than my two sisters, who are teachers, make, at least in my state. Also way more than my wife makes -- a social worker who investigates child abuse claims and makes decisions that affect a child' whole life.

Frankly, I don't tip dealers anymore unless they are very good. I had a HORRIBLE dealer give me grief about not tipping on a like $12 3/6 pot last week at our Indian casino here and told her straight up "if you want an extra tip in addition to your normal pay, you need to not suck so much." This lady had exposed 3 cards in the last 10 minutes, and she's miffed she's not getting tipped?

Look, I'm an ex-waiter, I tip for good service, but tipping that is expected or taken out automatically is NOT tiping. It defeats the whole purpose of tipping.

Furthermore, I'd never really thought about it before, but I saw a post on this topic last week that mentioned that dealers are basically officials, and tipping them is like the Yankees' tipping the umpires after they won the world series.... it doesn't really set right with me.

That's $37.5 per hour based on 12 downs in a 8 hour shift.

10% for the floor leaves about $34 an hour.
