I lived in Boston from 2000-2005, and NYC from June 2005 since. I must say, Boston fans hate NYC MUCH more than NYC fans despise Boston. New Yorkers are more nonchalant and don't care as much. Maybe winning breeds complacency?

I absolutely despise the Red Sox and almost everything about Boston/New England.

[/ QUOTE ]

like, everything everything? or just all the sports teams?

[/ QUOTE ]
Everything on a broad level. I have friends from the area and even one of my best friends is from there and a big Red Sox fans. On a personal level I have no problem being friends with those people or liking individual things about the area (although I haven't been there in 10+ years). On a general level though, like if someone were to ask me "how do you feel about boston?" or "how do you feel about people from boston?" my gut reaction is very negative. I immediately associate all those things with the Red Sox and I hate hate hate the Red Sox.

I used to feel the same way about NYC. then I went to Katz's.

Does Boston have some sort of equivalent that would make me not hate everything about it?

Ana's Tacqueria FTW.

I spent last summer living in northern california. I can almost promise you that you do not want to compete on the taqueria front.

I think it's more like winning breeds calmness. Look at Barry Sanders when he scored a touchdown. Just cause he didn't act like Chad Johnson doesn't mean he didn't care as much. Act like you've been there before and you'll be there again.

well the part that really got me was the New England hate. Vermont is really really beautiful (and is ironically overrun by NY folks), and areas like Stowe are pretty close to perfect.

Nantucket/Martha's Vineyard are also great, and often visited by NY people. the Maine coastline is beautiful.

re: Boston proper, that's much harder to sell to a NYC person. almost any food you can get you can get in NYC, and better. it's almost as expensive here too.

I think it might be easier to find very fresh fish/shellfish here? lobster is probably better and cheaper here, but not by much.

I assume Fenway is a hard sell...and you don't need to select a school anymore...but if you need some great healthcare we've got you covered!

I don't really like these places. I don't ski and I don't want to go on nature hikes or buy homemade jam from the general store or whatever it is people find so charming about those places. I know lots of people from NY get off on that stuff, I'm just not into it.

You're probably right about the shellfish, but as you say it's a fairly marginal difference and I don't have a refined enough pallete to notice. I've been to Fenway a couple times and it's a shithole imo. The place looks like it's about to fall apart. It's obviously got a lot of historical significance, but so does Yankee Stadium, and without the 80 year gaps.
